Default moving to Herrington Lake

Looking to move to Herrington Lake in the near future and was hoping to get some info. Are there any areas around the lake that you would stay away from as far as to build or buy a house? Which area of the lake would be best suited for travelling to Lexington and Richmond, My job could be at either location and didn't want it to be much more than an hours drive to each. Job location is east of Lexington on 64 near Winchester and the Richmond facility is the Blue Grass Army Depot. Would love a lake front property with the ability to have my own boat dock and understand that some areas that are lake front have steep drop offs and a boat ramp is not an option.

thanks

Herrington Lake is in Northern Garrard County. Lancaster is the seat of Garrard County. It is located off US 27. Nicholasville (Lexington's major suburb) is only a skip up the road about 20 miles. Richmond is probably the same distance via KY Hwy 52. Lancaster is actually signed on the interstate at Richmond at exit 87 on I-75. If you land the job in Lexington, it would probably be an hour plus drive easy as the BG Army Depot is on the only side of Lexington, the east side. You go on US 27 through Nicholasville, and then through the very busy, busy Nicholasville Rd corridor in Lexington to New Circle Rd (KY Hwy 4) then to Winchester Rd, out Winchester Rd to Hallie Pike then onto the BG Army Depot, probably a 90 minute commute during peak traffic. However to Richmond BG Army Depot, you take KY 52 to Richmond or take a shortcut to Berea and use US 25/US 421. I do not know about the properties, just the geography and roads! The Commonwealth of Kentucky, a few years back, was going to make Herrington Lake into a State Resort Park but due to budget cuts and questionable profitability of it, it was put on hold or possibly nixed. Still could very well could be built, so if you plan long term, might want to think of that, as they would annex properties and a influx of people would be in the area. I would try southeast Lexington/Fayette County. There are numerous lakes (Lakeshore Dr/by Jacobson Park/Southshore Dr/ and you can live in a suburban environement and be about 20 minutes away from the Lexington BG Army Depot and 30 from the Richmond one!

Yenger, I'd recomend avoiding Lexington due to the high taxes, awful traffic, and often less than friendly people. I think your best bet for rural living within easy commuting range to either the Avon or Richmond Army Depots would be generally around the Boonesborough area of Madison & Clark Counties - on a map this includes the communities of Redhouse, Ford, & Clays Ferry. This area is one of the last places in the Inner Bluegrass Region to remain untouched from all the population growth that has occured since 1960.

Censusdata continues to say Lexington is unfriendly on several of his posts. If 3 people were rude to him I guess he thinks the entire 290,000 people in Lexington are "less than friendly."

If you want lake property within a reasonable drive to Avon, how about Cave Run?

I hate to say it, but you're proving his point.

Question Cave Run Lake

I've had at least two people tell me to look at Cave Run Lake, There are two reasons why I was leaning on Herrington Lake, the first is because they have lake front property and I believe Cave Run does not not and second because of the distance to Richmond from there, I will be working at both Avon and Richmond and thought Herrington Lake was more equal of a distance to both facilities. What about Reba Lake?

Default Hey Yenger...

...check out The Glade at Herrington Lake. Its just past Chimney Rock...wonderful lakefront properties. Good luck to you. I wish that I had an opportuntiy to live oat Lake Herrington. My parents have a place there and it is just lovely...even in the wintertime.
