Don't know if you're still reading, but your mention of museums brings to mind Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate, Waveland, the Kentucky Life Museum, Frankfort's Thomas D. Clark History Center, aka the Kentucky History Museum, and other historic homes and sites in just about every town in the Bluegrass. There's enough out there to keep you busy for at least the next year.
Check out the public library for programs of various kinds, along with varous audiovisual materials plus biographies, historic fiction, books about local history, quilting, crafts, antiques, baby care, etc. that would fit in with your interests. The quilt shops have courses. Adult education classes are offered through the public schools. The Carnegie Center (in the old Main Library) has a variety of classes and workshops.
Shakertown - cool riverboat ride there through the Kentucky River Palisades. Forts Harrod and Boonesboro. Civil War reenactments in Richmond this weekend and Perryville in early October. The Lexington History Museum, in the old courthouse downtown. The Hunt-Morgan House. There's also an active SCA group here, along with several traditional dance groups here, in Frankfort and Berea.
Once you meet interesting people at these activities and places, ask about more good stuff. One thing leads to another, in my experience...
Have fun.
