Blue grass ARMY depot job...live in richmond??
We are currently in vegas area, moving within month of so.
I just need info on all things Richmond, or the area by the blue grass army depot area.
We are currently looking for rentals only, not buying.
We are looking for the best places to search for rentals, and where to steer away from. We are looking for 3+ bedrooms under 900 dollars. Also what are the public elementary schools like?? what are the best schools in that area. Child is going into 2nd grade. Does public school run 9 months or 12 months. (some schools in vegas are 12 month schools, no summer break)
Also Preschools are they all private academies? here they only accept children with special needs into public preschool. Is there a preschool program in public schools for 4 year olds?
Also.....very important!!!!! Are there tornados, at all??!?! even if its once a year are there? we are washington state born and raised and just moved to vegas two years ago. We never have seen a tornado except on tv and I am terrified of them..Any info would be really appreciated.

Sorry I don't know that much about Richmond schools and neighborhoods. If you're afraid of tornadoes be sure to rent a place with a basement! Richmond had a tornado about a month or so ago We are in the last portion of the tornado belt.

been here three years work at the depot and have been all over the area. tornados are always south of the depot. yes special needs public preschool with screening. you should be able to find a single family house for 900, if you have no pets. no year round schools. whitehall elementry is highst rank kit carson has the most tenured teachers. live on the north end of town to avoid long route bussing to middle school. you are going back in time socially about 20 years from the west.

I grew up in Richmond. In Kentucky and in the South, we tend to go by counties. So I would say, I grew up in Madison County. Richmond is the 6th largest city in Kentucky with about 35,000 and Madison County with soon to be 100,000. Two towns are in Madison County, Richmond and Berea. The Depot lies in between off U.S. 421. Berea is smaller and considered "The Arts and Crafts Capital of Kentucky", it truly is a hidden gem and alot to be discovered in "Beautiful Berea". I personally think the unique thing about Madison County are its institutions of higher learning, which benefit public schools and the citizens a great. Always free seminars, lectures, extended learning opportunites for the public and children. Eastern Kentucky University is in Richmond, it has a student population of 16,000 so Richmond is a college town, so have fun with that, embrace it! Berea, is a college town itself, in fact the town was founded around Berea College, a small liberal arts college that is very well known and recongized in the south. Through Madison County, runs I-75, one of the busiest interstates in the nation and Madison County has 7 interchanges/exits off I-75, more than any other county in Kentucky. I-64 is only a few miles north, and the Bluegrass Parkway/Mountain Parkway/Cumberland Parkway (which are all expressways that connect to other interstates) aren't far away at all. There's a great quality of life in Madison County. You will find rural folks, sure, but you will find young professionals, hipsters, young and diverse people all around. My neighbors were Arab and I loved learning about them and experiencing new things! They are now constructing a new performing arts center in conjuction with the university and the city that should provide great opportunities for citizens. If you are looking for private schools, I would recommend Model Laboratory School (K-12) on Eastern Kentucky University (EKU)'s campus. Most universities have lab schools and most professors and "who's-who" children attend here. Public schools, White Hall Elementary was the 5th highest performing elementary school in the entire state! No other school in the region got that close. It is on the north end off of Lexington Rd (US 25 -US 421 N) close to the Exit 90 interchange off I-75. Additionally, Fort Boonesborough State Park is in Richmond/Madison County, which is a great way to unwind by hiking, swimming, camping, learning some history about the Civil War, etc...Also, there's no need to be concerned about the weather. It is rare and the automobile is much much more dangerous than the threat of a tornado. We have excellent, if not, the best, warning systems becausing of all the chemical weapons at the depot. Just be alert and take the proper precautions should you be warned. Please let me know if you have questions, I want to show you want a wonderful place it is here! I go to school in Connecticut and miss Kentucky a lot and can't wait to return!
