Relocate to Lexington
I LOVE LEXINGTON!!! Ive been there several times and love it! The weather, the scenery, the nice people! I would love to call that area home. But I'm havng a bit of difficulty finding a decent job in the area. I'm a mid-level professional, and I'm registered on Monster, CareerBuilder and America's Job Bank, and have applied for jobs that fit my background, but I have yet to receive a response. How is the job market in the area, and what other resources should I look into? Any help I get is greatly appreciated
Thanks again everyone! Hope to be a Lexington area resident real soon

Lexington is a nice growing university town. The job market is healthy but still lacks of lot of high paying white collar jobs, especially in areas like banking. What is your field of employment? If you are set on KY, you may want to expand your search to Louisville and NKY around Covington where they offer a bit more in the way of professional jobs (due to being much larger metro areas).

I moved to the area two years ago for many of the same reasons. I too came without employment but people were so gracious that through networking I've been able to find great work. What type of work are you looking for? and what level of $$ will you require? Would be happy to help if I can.

Thanks for the responses
Hi Single & stx12499 Thanks for the response! Currently I am a buye rfor a mfg company in suburban Milwaukee. I have 5 yrs in Banking and 5+ in purchasing/inventory control. Currently looking for the same type of work in KY with pay in the low to mid 40s. I love to bicycle, which is why WI isn't a good fit for me. As I mentioned earlier, I'm having a hard time finding decdent paying jobs that I'm qualified for. A lot of my friends are talking up Arizona and Texas, but I'm not sure I'd fit ni the lifestlyes there, being a Midwest person. KY seems to be a real good fit for my interests and lifestyle. Thanks for all your help.

Actually Lexington has lots of white collar positions. With your experience you should easily be able to find a job here that meets your salary expectations. In addition to banks there are many manufacturing companies here which could use your inventory control experience. Kentucky.com has the Lexington Herald Leader ads on line. You might also contact some of the banks directly. Central Bank is locally owned and is pretty large. The phone number is (859) 253-6302. Try doing a search on yellowpages.com for Lexington banks. There are too many for me to list here.
Lexington is actaully much more than just a university town. Yes UK is here but it is an integral part of the lives of those that work there, it does not run the rest of the town. There are many communities within the community. Whatever your interests you will find it here.
Good luck in your search.

Work in Kentucky
If you're interested in Federal jobs in Kentucky you can look on www.USAjobs.com and that will show you what jobs are being advertised, let you apply to them and also how you can search by state, city, etc.
That, or their are state jobs you can look into as well (although much lower paying for sure) through Frankfort, KY.
Don't know if your experience would only pertain to the private sector, but you never know, if you check out the federal jobs, you may find one suitable to what your background qualifies you for, in the price range you're looking for, and in the location in Kentucky or even surrounding states you are looking for.
Hope this helps! (Can you tell I'm a federal employee who loves it)!?

lexington offers many white collar jobs, but not to the extent that you will find in NKY and Louisville. You are correct there is more to Lexington than UK...BUT, amost anything there is centered around it, and the culture there is to talk about it all the time. Louisville is actually a bit similar, although on a lesser scale due to it being much larger and many people not caring about UofL. Although, recently I had some friends relocate here who can't stand how people in Louisville always talk about UK and UL basketball!

Try the internet for the address of the Office of Education and Training. They helped me land my present job, after a lengthy bout of depression related unemployment ( that, and the fact that I kicked my last employer's tail real good, during a public altercation, that literally took place in the middle of Versailles Road in Lex). Oops, there goes my squeaky clean rep again. Seriously though, the OET is quite proficient at helping people find appropriate employment, and charges no fee, as it is a public agency.
