Default Healthcare-Georgetown-Lexington Area

I would like to find out about the healthcare in the area?? My husband and I want to move back closer to OH from NM but not back to where we came from-too cold, too much snow.Since we are both 50+, healthcare is a primary concern for us. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

In terms of employment or in receiving care? Either way, you will have several options in the city. There are several good sized hospitals in the city and you can receive care here that will rival the healthcare offerings of cities many times larger than Lexington. Lexington has two fairly comprehensive private hospitals in St Joseph and Central Baptist for the "bread and butter" healthcare needs plus some fairly specialized needs. Both are really nice hospitals and provide great care from what I've heard. St Joseph East is a smaller hospital that offers a lower level of care relative to its bigger brother, but it's still a good sized hospital. There is a VA facility on the UK Med Center campus that is strongly affiliated with UK that draws patients from a long way, so if you or your husband get VA benefits you will have a large VA Hospital. Finally you have the University of Kentucky system (Chandler Hospital, UK Children's, and Good Samaritan) that will offer essentially everything that modern medicine can provide. It has really turned into a major referral center for Kentucky and parts of Ohio, W Virginia, and parts of TN. UK will be opening its new hospital starting about a year from now, and it will be absolutely amazing. They also continue to recruit faculty from all over the nation to increase even further the scope of offerings and the amount of research. It has essentially doubled in size in the last 4 years and the next 5 years will see significant growth as well.

Really the only people that need to leave Lexington for healthcare needs are going to go to places like MD Anderson, Mayo, Hopkins, Duke, or Cleveland Clinic which all offer some crazy advanced stuff.
