Question Possibly moving to Kentucky

My husband has an opportunity to relocate to Lexington. His office would be in Lexington but we have relatives in northern Cinnci. I am looking for an area that would be a relatively short commute (an hour or less) for him but keep us closer to Cinnci. Also I have a 16 year old that will be transferring highschools (not too happy about it either) so I need a good school system, A school where boys lacrosse is competitive and soccer as well. For myself I need to be near a nice mall and have access to good hospitals and shopping and airport and major highways but I dont want city living. I prefer an upscale neighborhood within a nice community. Am I asking too much? We are driving down there this weekend to take a prelim look around and It would be nice to be able to just have an idea where to start. any help would be greatly appreciated.

What part of Lexington will your husband be going to? An hour's commute to the south side of Lexington won't give you many choices to pick from (outside of the Lexington area itself). Basically, your malls, major shopping, etc are going to be located in Lexington or just outside of Cincinnati in N KY.

Between Lexington and Cincinnati/N KY, there are a lot of small towns and rural areas, so nothing quite as suburban as you might prefer. Also, there are some private schools and a few public schools in Lexington that offer lacrosse, but I think it will be less common in the rural counties.

There are some towns, like Georgetown, that are about a 35-45 min drive into the downtown Lexington or campus area and about 50 min to downtown Cincinnati (at the Ohio state line). I-75, which is the main corridor between Lexington and Cincinnati, runs right through Georgetown. Georgetown has some limited shopping (namely Kohl's, Wal-mart, etc, with some future plans for a larger, more upscale shopping center). Hamburg in Lexington (a large shopping and restaurant area) is also about 45 minutes. There is a hospital in Georgetown, and the Lexington airport is about 40 minutes. The Cincinnati airport is a little over an hour. There are some nicer neighborhoods - Mallard's Point has some upscale housing and is on the north side of the town, closer to Cincinnati. The schools are decent - not as highly rated as some of the Lexington schools but they are consistent. The high school is a new, modern building and receives a lot of money for technical programming from Toyota, which has a plant in Georgetown. So, if you don't mind a smaller town, Georgetown might be a good option. If you want a more traditional suburban setting, you might prefer to choose the Lexington or Cincinnati area and sacrifice distance on one of your drives.
