OK, I'm a bit confused with some of the responses here... I thought Lexington is just Lexington, as in Fayette County? Outside of Fayette county limit is no longer Lexington, am I wrong?

Then can you kindly point some of them specifically out to me, instead of just assuming I'm here to cause trouble. I'm asking for help, not a condescending attitude and if you really know a lot about the area (assuming that you do), now is your chance to show it by serving as the best source of information I've encountered thus far. BTW, I am actually more interested in living outside of the city of Lexington so the more information you can give me the better.

I think close-in there is Chevy Chase and the areas along Fontaine, I think, east of Chevy Chase. From what I recall there are a few older small apartment buildings in that area. This puts you in an older, yet affuent part of Lexington. Apartments and wealthy neighborhoods dont necessarily go together, and what is to rent will be high.

If you like Wilmore, check out Midway. I dont know about rentals but I think it would fill your requirment for a somewhat upscale small town.

As far as Lexington goes, you'll not find anywhere for 700-800/month in an "affluent" or "well to do" neighborhood. You might find an apartment in a nice middle class neighborhood such as Shillito apts. You might find a small ranch home in an older middle class neighborhood such as Garden Springs. Both of those would be comfortable and safe places to live. The suggestion of Chevy Chase is a nice one - there are some older four plexes and such. However, you won't get one for $700/month there neither, but it's a safe area and close to UK.

I agree with some of the others and your post is a bit abrasive. If you're looking for what most Lexingtonians would consider "affluent" you're talking about neighborhoods that would have very few rental properties and if you found one, the rent would be closer to a couple thousand a month.

If you go to Wilmore, Midway, Versailles, etc., you can get more for rental dollars, but the obvious challenge of commuting every day. Midway and Wilmore offer small town living with some very charming older homes. You won't be popping over to a movie or the large grocery store at a moment's notice though.
