Thanks for all the information!!!
Are there any Costcos, Sam's clubs, or Wal-marts near the Lexington area? What grocery stores are in that area? What about outdoor parks and play places for kids. Does anyone know of a Site where I can look at some pictures of the area? What is the weather like there? We currently live in San Jose, CA and the weather is great here most of the time. I know there will be a big change, but I want to get an idea of what I'm in for since I have three small kids and another on the way. Thanks much!!! ![]() |

Walmart-2 superstores, 3 neighborhood grocery stores
Sams Club-New Circle Rd. Here are a few sites but none of them have a ton of pix: www.topsinlex.com - mostly people at area events www.heraldleaderphoto.com www.kyhometown.com www.travelphotobase.com www.lfucg.com/photo_library.asp The weather......we have 4 distinct seasons. Our winters are not generally very bad. We get one or two light snows a year and the snow usually melts within a few days. If this gives you an idea we bought our son a snow sled for Christmas the year he was 6. He is now 9 and this past winter is the first time he got to use his sled. Spring and fall are moderate, cool nights with warmer days. Summer can get hot and humid, especially in August. |

Louisville is the only city in KY with Costco. Of course Lexington has Walmart and Sam's Club. |

Christian Neighborhood? as opposed to what a Satanic one? You're in a notch of the bible belt you'd be hard pressed to find anything other than a 'Christian' neighborhood in about 99.9% of the state. And by Christian neighborhood I'm guessing you are talking about what the people in it would consider them self regardless of their respective level of devotion.

Most everywhere in Lexington if not all of Kentucky fits your description. Yes there are sizable Jewish communities in Louisville, but for the most part Kentucky is Christian or Catholic. This area in the middle of the southern Bible Belt. Honestly I didn't know there was such a thing as a "Christian neighborhood." I'm Presbyterian myself and attend 2nd Pres. Church on Main Street in Lexington- lots of wonderful activities going on there.
As to your questions about groceries, we have a Sam's Club on New Circle Road on the east side and I think 3 or 4 Wal- Marts. I do all of my shopping at Kroger and Fresh Market (a smaller version of Trader Joe's, how I wish we had one of those)... We have a number of parks here, not quite as many as in Cincinnati or Louisville, but Woodland Park, Jacobson Park, Ecton Park, and Shilito Park are, by Lexington standards, nicer parks. If you're looking for something like a water park, zoo, or theme park, then you have to go to Louisville or Cincinnati (I prefer Cincy myself). We have 4 distinct seasons as said above. Winters are a wet cold instead of a dry cold like in Colorado or Utah. Needless to say, 25 degrees like today with 20 mph gusts of wind is quite cold. Usually we get a few snow flurries here and there and occasionally an ice storm (5 years straight now) where numerous schools and businesses shut down for a few days. Spring is very pleasant, but we get a lot of rain. Similar to that of Portland or Seattle, but our "rainy season" is much shorter. Summers get EXTREMELY humid- in August we have temperatures looming around 100 with almost 100% humidity. I played varsity soccer and I couldn't stand conditioning practices in August and September because of the heat (I'll take snow anytime over extreme heat). Fall is similar to spring with mild temperatures and beautiful foliage on the trees. I've never been to San Jose but I have been to San Fran and LA and I think this is going to be a pretty big change for you. I hope this helps. |
