Default Pet regulations in Lexington?

I know that Louisville is passing an extensive dog law, or perhaps they've already passed it.

Is anything like that being planned for Lexington as well?

Also does anyone know if there is a limit to how many pets you can have in Lex? I have three dogs and will probably do some fostering for a local rescue group once I move, so the last thing I want is for Animal Control to come knocking on my door to say I can only have two pets per house or something equally as ridiculous.

Thanks for any responses!

I haven't heard of a law yet in Lexington, and I didn't see anything on their official page:
http://www.lexingtonhumanesociety.org/index.php?b=local_ordinances (broken link)

I did find this information, though, which might help:

Kennel Permit Section 4-12.4
If you own 8 or more dogs or puppies, you need to apply for an annual kennel license.
$25 Kennel License
Additionally, each dog and puppy must be individually licensed and current on its rabies vaccinations

Thank you! I'm so glad to hear that there probably isn't a new law being passed in Lex too. That's one of the main reasons I won't move to Louisville. While complying would not be a problem, I don't like the idea of government controlling this area of my life that much.

I'm a member of the Lexington Kennel Club, and we are well aware of what has happened in Louisville, and are keeping on top of this issue....there has not been any indications of something similar in Lexington at this time (though you never know where this stuff can pop up!)

wow, I knew nothing about new pet laws being passed in Louisville; that's got to be rough on owners.

we do have a leash law in Lex, and two dog parks where the dogs can socialize leash-free (these get crowded!). of course all dogs and cats must have their annual vaccinations, and the conditions your animals are living in must be good.

aside from laws, I've had success renting with pets. at the moment I have two cats and two reptiles in my apartment, which is officially pet-free. I got special permission to keep my pets with very good references from my prior landlords. I wasn't able to take pictures of my previous residences, but that's a great way to show responsibility and cleanliness to a landlord. some apartment complexes charge exorbitant fees for owning pets, but others don't and anyone can possibly be talked down.

of course, if you are looking to buy a house then none of this is an issue for you, but rest assured that Lexington is very pet-friendly.

Not sure about outlawing certain breeds, but as a pet groomer I have groomed a pitbull, so I don't imagine so. Most pitpulls I have met have been sweet dogs anyway. I haven't run into rottweilers here either, but knew a lot of people who had them in PA where I used to live and they were good dogs too. The idea of banning certain breeds is ridiculous to me.

Where to go? is on a distinguished road
I hope they don't start banning breeds! I live up in Maine right now and I am looking to move to KY, but I have dogs myself and am a serious advocate of responsible ownership. Too many dogs are destoryed and people are hurt by irresponsible owners. I would have a very hard time moving to KY if there are breed bans - it's very lazy on the part of the government, hard to enforce and the only people effected by it are those who actually comply with the law.

Where to go - we moved from Maine to KY in July of 2006....there are no breed bans, etc in Kentucky, and only Jefferson County (Louisville area) has passed a restrictive ordinance which was voided in court just last week. (The city/urban council may try to reinstate it at a later date, though).
Some of the more rural counties (even ones close to Lexington) have few if any dog restrictions (mine doesn't even require licensing). I don't think you'll encounter problems....c'mon down!

Poodlefur are you in Lexington? I have 2 dogs that will need grooming when I move next year. Also I would like to find out the cost. I have a maltese mix and a yorkie/poo. I'm fortunate to have a lady with a mobil set up here in AZ but understand I may have to do drop off.
