Many UK (and UofL) fans don't get it.
Here it is...being a fan of a sport team is fine. Nothing wrong with supporting a sport team.
Obsessions are different. It's not just supporting a sport team, it's a reason for living. Like people who eat, sleep, dream, and think about their team all the time.
The responses to this could be: I don't think about my sport team all the time, I think about....ah....er...well, ah...and.....er...I don't know what else I think about.
A previous poster mentioned a city and sports. Yes, a real city has more going for it than a sport team. The people in a real city have a variety of interests. Their lives do not revolve around the local sport team.

There are people obsessed with sports teams all around the country and globe. You're acting like this is a new phenomenon. Why do you care so much about what other people think or do? Like I said in another post, the crazy/obsessed fans are few and far between, but they are the ones people notice. Most of us who live in Lexington have other interests, and if you can believe it, those interests are more important than UK sports. Its shocking I know.

Well, UK could win 2 championships, have both stripped away and still be far ahead of just about every school on the list

Agree, so just dump another 2-4 million people in Lexington w/ large immigrant populations + bump up entertainment options to serve those people and we will definitely match your hypothesis.

Funny thing is my immigrant friends from Eastern Europe love UK sports

I know a lot of UK fans and none of them are ONLY UK fans. By that I mean they are much more multifaceted than that and so are the fans you are referring to. Because you do not follow sports (or UK basketball) does not mean that other people shouldn't. I realize this is hard for you to understand, but not everyone wants to be you...lol. In Georgia, they follow football obsessively. I am not a big football person, but does their following it bother me, no? That would be silly.

Here is what you don't get, it is not for you to decide what people are interested in or what is an obsession for them.
