The traffic is terrible (since the red lights last 5 minutes even if nothing is coming) and their is nothing to do unless you enjoy Wal Mart and McDonalds. You had better be in the 'in' crowd if you want to fit in. Contrary to popular belief, the economy isn't that good either, as Fayette County's average income has declined since 2000 while Louisville's has increased. Lexington's park system is a joke, I think there are two miles of walking trails in the whole county.

I couldn't agree more. I HATE Lexington. I would NEVER consider living there, EVER!! Sometimes we have to go there to doctors and such and I usually can't wait to leave. I know it's a small town but I really like Winchester. I don't live there but I enjoy stopping there on the way to Lexington or Louisville. And guys, please let up on Eastern KY. Some things are true but those type of people (welfare bums, unfriendly, rude, uneducated, etc.) are EVERYWHERE! You can't escape it. Our US government is set up to encourage people to be "on the draw" countrywide.

You really have to pick your battles. I prefer to stay in small town rural Eastern Ky and have a lower paying job and less "conviences" compared to making more money but then spending an hour or more in rush hour traffic getting to and from work (which burns gas and in turn cuts into your "big" paycheck) and standing in line everywhere I go. I can drive to the grocery store, fill my shopping cart, pay for all the items, load them into my car, stop and get gas on the way and still be back home in 45 minutes tops. To me, that is convience.

I'm so sick of the misconception that big huge cities are the only places worth living and if you don't live there, you're stupid. In my opinion small town America is the way to go! Think of it this way, most places that pay LESS cost LESS to live in and vice-versa. So we all end up pretty much in the same position. I know there are exceptions to this but I'm talking averages. I think that's really what the original posting was about. The guy wanted to move to a place where he would make less money but he could still afford the same type of house because pricing is lower.

I've said my peace.

I have to agree that Lexington is probably not a good choice for you. Louisville and the northern Ky suburbs offer so much more. I've been stuck in Lex for a while now, as a new heart condition has made me all but unemployable in my lifelong field, but I will be getting out of Fayette County as soon as possible! I wish I could go back to Louisville or maybe Cincinnati/Dayton. I'd like to go right now, but can't. Don't make my mistake- let Lexington remain a place to visit only.
