The nursing home you refer to by Wilson Downing is probably Sayre Christian Village. There are some apts nearby. This nursing home is known as a very good nursing home, although some of the housing nearby would be considered questionable by me.
Tanbark that was mentioned is a good nursing home as well and there are some nice apt complexes within close distance as well as the shopping center referred to.
Lexington Country Place off of Harrodsburg Rd has previously been a well respected nursing home, however it has suffered a bit in its ranking which was recently published in the paper. There are some apts fairly close by.
VA that you, southerngirl, mentioned is almost center of the UK campus. You can find lots of apts nearby, but obviously they will be occupied by primarily students. I'm not familiar with either of those apt complexes you mention.
There is a nursing home off of Pimlico that use to be called "Pimlico", but I think it goes by a different name now and one on Trent Blvd which use to be Christian Health Center, but it also has a different name now. There are apts close by....again similar to Sayre, there are some "iffy" ones with Centre Pkwy being avoided.
