The Heights and Hillcrest are Central zone, but farther west would be Hall. It's not a magnet but is an International Baccalaureate school, the only one in the district.
Downtown (north of Roosevelt) is also Central zone; that is where we live but we chose Parkview for our son (who started today!) because of their theatre program. (It's an arts/science magnet.)
Central has a great reputation but it is HUGE, and kids who aren't among the top academic achievers can very easily fall through the cracks. (And if you're a top achiever at Central, you're a top achiever in the country. It's a VERY high standard.) Not the best place for smart kids who aren't necessarily motivated when it comes to the books.
There are lots of good magnet schools in LR at all levels. You can explore your options on the LRSD website (lrsd.org).
