Little Rock Crime spots and housing???
Hey all, I am moving to LR to attend UALR and am wondering what areas of town should be best avoided when looking for an apartment? I was in Little Rock in 2005 but only downtown and near the Arena in N. LR. What areas of town are nice to rent in? Thanks,
Daniel_T

When it comes to the city of Little Rock the rule of thumb is to stay north of I-630 and east of I-30 and do not hang out with dope dealers.

Don't you mean N of I-630 and WEST of I-30? I can't think what is east that is attractive.

Certainly not the presidential library.

For a cool, hip college student, I would suggest Downtown LR, Hillcrest, and the Argenta neighborhood in NLR.
Otherwise, West LR and parts of midtown are nice.

West Little Rock is nice. AVOID SOUTH OF 630 from I30 to kanis, and even then be wary.

LOL, that's right. Thanks for the correction. East of I-30 is probably the most dangerous part of LR, and it isn't because of the Clinton Library

If you are careful South of I-630, there are some decent areas.
DO NOT rent anywhere South of 12th street to Asher between Woodrow on the East and Fair Park on the West.
If you are planning on renting an apartment, DO NOT rent in Chateau D'Ghetto (Chateua D'ville) across from UALR.

I wouldn't go south of I-630 Markham if you're east of University....that area is just going to pot, and is where most of the crime is located. West of University to just about 36th St. or right across from UALR is okay for the most part.
The apartments radster is talking about have been a significant problem in Little Rock for as long as I can remember (which is a pretty long time). 12th St. is pretty thuggy east of University....west you can find some pocket neighborhoods on the north, but even after 12th turns into Kanis Rd. you just have to be choosy.
Go to LRPD down on Markham, about 500 blk. west - see if they have the violent and nonviolent crime stats available, or I'm sure you can look at it on the internet....I just don't know if the demographics will be there.
Strumpeace and N. Pulaski Player are giving you good advice (except that NPP forgot which way the sun set!)...get out your map and confine yourself to the areas mentioned and you will do great. If you can get an apartment you can afford in Hillcrest or the Heights, go there - some people have garage apartments they rent out, or guest houses - go there. Trust me, you will be safe and secure and live in a great neighborhood!
