Ironton is sort of remote from Little Rock - maybe not so bad. Weather is just like Little Rock....Wrightsville has a state penitentiary there. You'll go to Little Rock or Pine Bluff for anything real that you need....there's just not much there.

Wrightsville is an incorporate city on the southern border of Little Rock. I-530 runs north/south through town and the main east/west route through town is 145th Street (based off of the city street numbers from Little Rock). Ironton on the other hand is more rural.

The prison in Wrightsville is a boot camp for non violent offenders. I would not consider that a major issue. Wrightsville seems to have a fair bit of political turmiol, but most small young towns do. Little Rock is a short hop.
Not much shopping or anything else but bars & liquor stores in Wrightsville. I used to work in Wrightsville as it has a medium sized industrial park.

Wrightsville isn't just a boot camp for first time offenders or people who stole a t.v. from Wal Mart. Don't get confused on who resides at Wrightsville....there are some porn traffickers there that have been there a long time and will be there a longer time. I will agree with you that it is a stopping over spot for those less overtly violent crimes- there's a work release program there that allows the prisoners to work at paying jobs (or there used to be, they may have discontinued that)...
