I wanted to let anyone else who may be thinking of moving to Mayflower, AR know what to expect and give some info on the schools.
I'll start with the fact that I moved to Arkansas from Wisconsin 19yrs ago. I was a high school student at the time. We moved to Little Rock and I went to school at McClellan High School. I would NOT recommend McClellan to my worst enemy. The horror stories I could tell you would blow your mind and fill up way too much space here. Has it changed in 19yrs you ask? NO.
I moved to Mayflower with my husband and daughter in 2004.
The real estate prices are so reasonable, you will be amazed, especially compared to Maumelle, AR. You can find some beautiful views of the Arkansas River in many of the different communities here. There are mountainous views and even riverside views. I love our little community. It is quiet, small and everyone waves to everyone else. There are several communities like mine in Mayflower. There are also some very run down areas that you have to overlook and some you should stay away from completely. I think it is like that in any city in the United States though. I was worried about moving my daughter from a private school to this public school district. The district here is very small so it was difficult for me to find out by word of mouth what it was like. I will tell you that I can't think of another district in the Central Arkansas area that I would rather have my daughter in. The classrooms are small enough for teachers to focus on individual students, the whole district is focused on a challenging educational curriculum. (the school dist. website needs a major overhaul, however!) So far, I have enjoyed all of the teachers my daughter has had contact with. They have school sports and extracurricular activites. Also, as of right now, there are no uniforms, though it was discussed at one point...I think they just dropped it. Mayflower is within a short driving distance from Conway and Maumelle which both have Wal-Mart Supercenters (Maumelle's is being built) and so many eating and shopping establishments it would take me forever to list them. We are about 20 minutes from Little Rock. One thing I should mention is that the county that Mayflower and Conway are in is Faulkner county and it is a "Dry" county, meaning that liquor is not sold anywhere in the county, except exclusive restraunts. But, the closest liquor store to Mayflower is only about 5 minutes from the city center towards Maumelle. Maumelle is in Pulaski County and has several establishments that sell/serve liquor. I could go on about the city itself and how much I've enjoyed living here, but I think you get the picture.
