Question Are gangs still a major problem in Little Rock??

I saw the video "Gangbanging in Little Rock" in 1994 where they featured white gangs in Little Rock and I have started to wonder whatever happened to those kids, anyone have updates and are police cracking down on gangs in the city?? I think this gang problem could be solved with police enforcement, as these are mostly kids who should be in school and trying to be somebody instead of commiting crimes.

There is gang activity but it is all in a certain area of town. Stay away from southeast Little Rock, the area around the airport, or the area in NLR north of Argenta and it should never effect you. Gangbangin in Little Rock was supposed to show how gang activity during the 90s had spread beyond the major cities on the coasts into middle America, but all it ended up doing was giving a great midsized city a horrible reputation.

Today most of the "gang activity" in the Little Rock area is in the neighborhoods south of 12th St. in Little Rock and in southwest LR. The gangs that were in east LR (near the airport) back in the 90's all moved towards southwest LR after all those projects were condemned. There is no longer any real gang activity in North Little Rock... mostly 9 and 10 year olds that spray paint stop signs and think that they are cool. Don't hang out in Southwest (Baseline and Geyer Springs) and in the areas from Roosevelt to 12St., and I would bet that you will never be a victim of a violent crime in the LR area (unless you sell dope).

IMO most of the "gang activity" now, are small group gang "wannabes" instead of organized gangs. Still, they can cause as much stress as the organized gangs. Just stay out of those places mentioned above and don't worry about it.

The question was asked; What happened to those people in the film? There was a newspaper followup on the leader and some key members, but I don't remember the details.

personally I wouldn't sweat Southwest Little Rock too much. you're missing out on some great Mexican food if you're too much of a scaredy-cat to go over there!

Short answer, yes, because crime in america represents a valid sub-culture and therefore generational in nature.
