I am getting a new job in Little Rock, AR. I have a wife and a 4 year old kid. I am looking to move into an area that would allow me to get at least 2 acres of land, No-Deed Restricted community. I want to be close in driving distance to Little Rock, can drive upto 45 minutes for work. I am an outdoors type of person, but my wife is a city girl. Since our kid will be starting Kindergarden this fall, need a place where the education system is good. Anyone have thoughts and suggestions. Also, if you do mention a certain area, please state how far it is from Little Rock.

Thank you and look forward to the answers...........

Rick,

I lived in Little Rock for 27 years and retired out West in 2005. Conway, AR is one-half hour west of Little Rock on I-40. This town has a growing population and still has rural areas with sufficient land to meet your needs. The town has a major state university, University of Central Arkansas, and to my knowledge, the schools are good.

The Cabot/Ward areas have many homes on acreage...and sites to build! Commute is not that bad and you get 'city" feel while being in the country!

Benton/Bryant are my personal favorites....Saline County. You can check it out by visiting www.mysaline.com for insight into people and places there!

I hope this helps...feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have...or just to chat. I love making new friends and helping people!

Rick. Five years ago (after 50 years) we sold 40 acres and our home in Malvern, retired and moved to a retirement community in Little Rock. All the posted replies are good but it depends on what else you want. So I'll put in my two-bits worth. We commuted from Malvern to L.R. for about 40 years because we preferred to live and raise our kids in that type of area. It is about a 45 minute commute on I-30 west and the last 15+ miles into (and out of L.R.) during the "rush hours" is slow driving but does keep moving unless there is a wreck as one respondent mentioned.

In my opinion they have good schools, a good hospital, several doctors, normal retail outlets, and not far from L.R. and Hot Springs for entertainment if that is what you want, or larger retail outlets, or more specialized medical care. A wonderful location for lakes, rivers, mountains, and woods. Hunting, fishing, hikeing, boating/canoeing, etc., etc., etc.

We only moved because of our age, and I got tired of keeping up a home and property. Here, as I tell our friends; no grass to mow and no leaves to blow. If a light bulb goes out we just pick up the phone and tell maintenance to come fix it. That's nice!!
