LulaBell,
Check your inbox! "SamIAm" is correct. Many realtors just don't put a lot of time and effort in to people they haven't met!

I am completely amazed! My husband is a 3rd generation AMERICAN. I'm starting to really resent America and it's "freedom".

I recently purchased property in NE Arkansas and worked with a local realtor there. We communicated long distance via the internet initially looking for properties for me. Everyone in the office was wonderful.
My suggestion would be that you follow Sam's advice and try to get a referral from your local realtor.
Then be as honest as you can with whomever you are referred to in AR regarding your needs, preferences, comfort levels with Southern life etc. etc.
A realtor can help you like no one else when it comes to housing. The key is to be honest with them up front. I had wonderful people assisting me. And they were superb professionals. AR is wonderful... and there are wonderful people in AR. Don't let anyone tell you different. Just like any place else on this planet, you have to find the right location for you and your family. Trust me, it can be done and you can do it!
Good luck!

I'm sorry, but I have heard and seen too much from certain groups in Cabot, and I admit that if I had non-white children or spouse, I wouldn't even think about moving to Cabot.

Wow. I can't believe I am posting but hope you choose Jacksonville. I am not a native to this city but have been here 17 years and with its problems I still think the best choice when compared to Cabot. The housing is more likely to sell in Jacksonville, and Cabot is not very progressive when it comes to anything, don't believe all you hear about their schools being better than Jacksonville. I have many friends with kids in Cabot schools. Our school district has a lot of problems though as do most in Arkansas if you get a realistic look at them.
If I move any where in Arkansas the last place would be Cabot, racially segregated, redneck and still very behind the times. I am white as is my whole family. I think the air force base has a lot to do with the diversity, lots of good food and shopping in Jacksonville. As far as entertainment North Little Rock is very close with even more shopping and food. Good luck.

Hi, I will be working in the LiL' Rock area for about 7 months. but after reading some of the post here and other places on the forums I was wondering if it's a good fit. I am 44 single w/m.but I have my 72 year old disabled mother living with me, she wants to come to LR with me and stay because otherwise she will be literally stranded in Dallas......She does have family in Texarkana so that's a plus....Will she have much to do there, such as senior centrs, entertainment for seniors?
Are there any real good apartment complexes that have first floor units or handicapped accessible stuff?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I'd be careful about assuming the realtors won't talk to you because of a race issue. I am a realtor in North Dakota, but search for (and buy) property in other parts of the US. I'm always amazed, considering we realtors earn our living on the commissions of 'closed' sales, how many I e-mail or call who never respond. Incredible!!! But, you just have to have a "NEXT" attitude and keep going on until you find one that not only responds, but that you enjoy working with. I have to chuckle because I encountered this same problem when I first began looking at properties in Fairfield Bay (AR). The realtor I finally connected with is great -- the ones that blew me off or couldn't be bothered have so far lost out on two commission checks, and will possibly (in the future) lose out on more...

Since when was Canada considered "overseas"?

All things being equal, I don't think the Hispanic name or "tint", as you call it, would be a stumbling block for him in Cabot - it's certainly not the same little sleepy town it was even 10 years ago. My argument AGAINST moving to J'ville would be proximity to Little Rock and North Little Rock, but I know that Cabot used to have a lot of problems simply because there wasn't that much for the kids to do there. If your son loves sports and academics, he really shouldn't have a problem in Cabot....sports rule and they do have excellent schools.
