Reloc to Sherwood,Jax or Cabot.
Hi. Thanks for replying to me. I'm moving from Sunny California. This is a big change for me but the last 3 months of my husband being in a different state than me has been really hard on us and our 6 1/2 month old baby. SO I'm going to AR for the 6months he is stationed there at LRAFB. Can you advise me on which is a good city or neighborhood. Obviously something in a safe area, clean ect . What can you suggest? I'm leaving Ca Early April and need to find something. My price range is $400-$700 at the very most. Can you help? Thanks!!

At least you will only be there 6 months !!!
I thought that Jacksonville was nasty but most places near any base are.
Cabot well have heard not very good stuff about it - but never been there.
My Son said that Sherwood is a nice area.
There are lots of nice parks and that kind of thing, near Memphis lots to see there.
Contact Family Support at the base they will be able to help, also contact the housing office.
Good luck.

Jacksonville is fine if you live in Foxwood or Stonewall - they both go to Pinewood Elementary, which is pretty good, and have young families. (you'd be very close to the base).
I grew up in Jacksonville & it is not pretty, but isn't a bad place to be. There's a SuperCenter...
Cabot is growing and growing, but is on the other side of Jacksonville from Little Rock.
Sherwood is growing too, but big parts of it are very country.
My in-laws live in the Indian Hills subdivision of North Little Rock, which has lots of older homes & a pool where you could take the baby.

I live in Sherwood. I have lived in Sherwood since 1981. It's a very nice little town. I live in the Oakbrooke Subdivision. About 5 blocks from the elementary school and close enough to the high school to see the lights on the football field on Friday nights and about 7 blocks behind the city hall and police station. Nice neighborhoods and there are some bads ones in any town.
I live about 9 miles from the back gate of the AFB and go there every Satruday to shop at the commassary.

Oh, I was JUST asking this question myself. And...after some very personal experiences I can tell you that if you are a person of color, you may not want to go to Cabot. That is JUST my experience, NOT fact. I mean, the real estate there is cheaper and it's GROWING, so my prayer is that some of the predjudice is changing as well. I realize this problem is NOT just in Cabot, but, wow...just trust me on this one.
We just this very week chose SHERWOOD! I love it. Jacksonville was nice, but Sherwood just appealed to me more. If you have any specific questions about neighborhoods and such PLEASE send me a message. I have been intensively researching the area for MONTHS! I would LOVE to talk with you. My dh just started working at the AFB in January and the kids and I are here now on our 30 day house hunting trip as we speak.
Blessings~

If you're still looking...
Hi! I see that this was listed quite awhile back, so I'm not sure if you still need any help. My husband and I lived on LRAFB in base housing for over 2 years, and I worked in Cabot. So, here's a little breakdown.. Jacksonville is a decent place, but I wouldn't call it clean. Just to give you an idea about it there are no movie theaters but 2 strip clubs and 2 adult novelty shops, so its doesn't exactly have that family feel. Cabot is mostly white, but that is getting better (after Katrina a lot of people from Louisiana ended up in Cabot, and that did include some black people). But, Cabot is a nice place to live, its a pretty small town, but it does have a Super Wal Mart, a movie theater, and a few nice places to eat. Sherwood is a nice place, its in between Jacksonville and North Little Rock, so it gives you easy access to either. Sherwood has a Sam's Club and a Neighborhood Market and some nice apartments. Well, if you have any more questions, feel free to e mail me.
Good luck!
