Going to bump this.

As we are moving into the Little rock metro area in the next year or so.

Want takes of the city living, vs. local living(Mayflower, Conway, Maumelle.) and other areas outside of the city(Little Rock)
We as well come from a little, big city(Colorado Springs)...

We most likely will not live in LR, but commute. The wife already has her job in Conway. I can work anywhere that has cars...

Good areas to live.. family wise?

I have lived in Chicago, Denver and Los Angelas. Just as a hint to pain level.
I say this I have heard some very evil stories about Little Rock and it's crime rate.

Local folks.. talk to me, please!

I would tend to recommend Maumelle. It's quiet and is convenient to pretty much anywhere in the metro area. You're 20ish minutes from downtown, 20ish minutes to Conway, 20ish minutes to Chenal, etc. Some of the best schools in the metro are in the area if that's a concern. It's also very safe. You have a decent assortment of restaurants in town, nothing really fancy. It's more expensive than some other areas though.

Mayflower might not be too bad if you want something even more quiet with a touch of rural feel. Just bear in mind, considering some of the places you've lived, Mayflower would probably seem VERY rural.

I really liked the Chenal area west of Little Rock.

The OP mentioned a somewhat rural setting...I don't think WLR is it.
It's basically a good example of the sprawl in LR.

Conway is a good college town but I would worry about jobs there if you're not a professor or a nurse. I'm not well versed in the Conway economy.
You would have more retail and restaurant options if you lived in Maumelle...you're close to Little Rock and North Little Rock.

I LOVE Maumelle! My child goes to Pine Forest Elementary and I have no problems with this school. The neighborhood is very friendly with lots of kids to play with and have fun. When we moved here 4 years ago, we made a fabulous choice to live here! I never thought I would like it in AR but I love it!

Thanks! Thinking moving within 10 miles of Conway. I'm flexible in were I live, the wife is a die hard city gurl. It is going to be a hard conversion for her moving there. All will be well...

If your wife likes the city, why wouldn't you live in Little Rock?

A 20+ mile commute is not wanted. Little Rock is not a qualifier as 'bigger' city to her.
We will most likely be in or near Conway. Stated before, I have lived in some bigger towns, but have also lived in rural Georgia and up, up state NY.
I can live anywhere and be happy(13+ years in the Army). I am having to ease her in to the idea, that it will be ok, in a more rural setting. She has never been in an area with less than 1 mill in the metro area. She is thinking we are going to be bored all the time.
