Another new comer/questions about Conway.
Hi
moving to Conway in June (more than likely).
I have been lurking the AR threads for some time now.
I read on one about a $250 deposit for electricity to be turned on. Is this true, or does it have to do with credit and not for everyone?
Also, my husband will be working in LR until January, is the commute bad in the am or pm from Conway?
Can anyone tell me of some good furniture stores in Conway?
Trustworthy used car lots? (ie dont want to buy a lemon but also dont want to spend a lot either).
We are possibly coming over to visit in May to look at houses, is westside of Conway nice?
Also, we will be there the week before 4th of July, any fun events that night?
My husband said Jim Stone or Juliette something public schools there were good, is this true?
Im sure I have many more questions....thanks in advance!

I live in Conway, but I've only been here for a few months, so take my answers for whatever they're worth.
1) The local utility does require the deposit, regardless of credit.
2) Getting from the Dave Ward Drive exit (the Conway exit closest to LR) to I-430 typically takes app. 25 minutes on a weekday. It can be longer or shorter, and sometimes leaving five minutes early may save you ten minutes in traffic. From I-430, it just depends on where you're going. For whatever reason, the afternoon commute seems to take a bit longer. Fortunately, I don't have to make this commute.
3) Furniture stores and car lots -- Conway has plenty of both. I can't make a specific recommendation, though, because I brought my furniture and car with me when I moved here.
4) Conway's west side is the part of town that has grown the fastest over the last few years. The housing stock is good, but I have to warn you that the services/amenities are few and far between on the west side of town. Restaurants and retail are congregated near the interstate, and Conway's lack of a good road network can easily make it a 20-minute drive from parts of west Conway to the more commercial areas.
5) I think the city has a fireworks show on July 4th, but I was out of town last year on the 4th, so I'm not sure where it's held.
6) Even Conway's 'bad' schools are better than the 'good' schools in some of the surrounding areas. If racial and economic diversity are important to you, the schools in the middle of town and on the east side of town would appeal to you; those would be Theodore Jones, Florence Mattison, Ida Burns, and Sally Cone elemetary schools. The schools on the west side are newer and less diverse; those would be Julia Lee Moore, Jim Stone, and Woodrow Cummins. Marguerite Vann is centrally located. Ellen Smith Elementary on the south side of town is well-regarded and is quite diverse. Again, all of these are generally regarded as quality schools. My personal experience is with Woodrow Cummins, which is the newest school in Conway. My son goes there. We've been very happy with the school.
Best wishes on your move.

There is a fireworks display at Beaverfork Lake. The big event is Toad Suck Daze which is the first week of May, so if you can come then, you'd enjoy it.
I agree that there are many furniture stores in Conway. You won't have any trouble finding what you like. There's Bates, Hanks, and Furniture Row just to name a few.
I've substitute taught in several schools in town, and as a long time teacher from another state, I can tell you that all the schools have been very, very good.
The commute to Little Rock isn't bad, and it's not difficult to get around town. Coming from Connecticut, I found the town to be very well designed. It was not hard to learn how to get from one section of town to the next, and you don't need to use Dave Ward Drive and the highway to do it.
You'll love Conway. We've been here about 10 months, and we are so glad we moved

Not bad....much worse than merely bad. Needs 8 lanes between Conway and LR. Stay off the road in fog...suicide mission. take an alternative route if possible.

good car salesman
I bought a Hyundai from "Buster" at the Conway Hyundai lot on Oak Street. I was so pleased with him and my purchase, which was 3 years ago. I love my car, and I really loved working with Buster b/c he wasn't pushy and told me the facts. I would recommend him to anyone.
