Me and my two boys will be moving to Little Rock AFB and I have some questions. Where do most folks that are stationed there live off-base? My kids will be in kindergarten and daycare and I want them to go to the best school possible. I dont want to commute more than 15 minutes. I plan on staying here for a long time and want the best bang for my buck. Is there any places you would not buy at due to crime? We will be traveling from Alaska and want to find a place asap. Any subdivision you would recommend or not recommend due to shotty builders? Thanks for the help and I look forward to any helpful responses.

You might want to consider sherwood, lakewood and some parts of north little rock too. I'd caution you to seriously look at your daycare options AS WELL AS the schools BEFORE you buy. What passes for daycare around here is truly criminal and the state-allowed ratios are almost twice the ratious allowed on base. There are only two or three NAEYC accredited programs in the greater LR area and the base CDC is one.

You are so right about the daycares! Some of the most popular daycares in the area treat the kids(especially the toddlers) like zoo animals! It's amazing that they literally fence in 20 screaming toddlers in a room with one tv set on the Disney Channel! What's even worse is that it even smells like a zoo!!! I sometimes wonder if they feed them by tossing Cheerios out on the floor.

I went to visit one heavily advertised daycare and left...immediately. The place looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. Burned toast was laying on a tray from breakfast and I visited at 1p AND they wanted $520/mo.! I went to another and it was definitely clean but the rooms were the size of postage stamps when empty and were intended for 10-15 kids and a teacher. Another place had zip/zero security and there were so many kids in there! I'm just glad I finally found something. DS has a teacher and aide, six classmates, plenty of room and toys, daily story time and outdoor play. Not cheap tho.

If you are looking for the best schools I would most definitely go to Cabot! Little Rock/Jacksonville school district is terrible!!! I live in Magness Creek subdivision off Hwy 5 in Cabot and my girls go to Magness Creek School (Elementary school right in the subdivision) I have been more then pleased with the schools here. They also just opened a day care next door to the school. I just got an assignment out of LR so I am going to be selling my home in Magness Creek. Message me if your interested. Even if not please for your kids sake go to the Cabot School District! If you need proof when you get her just go check out Cabot HS vs North Pulaski (Jacksonville) Jacksonville HS, Sylvan Hills (Sherwood) it shouldn't take but a drive around the facilities to see the difference!
