Default Looking for neighborhood around Little Rock with good schools

My husband will soon begin a job at UALR. We are looking to rent a single-family home in a neighborhood with good schools close to UALR. Our school-age son will just be in kindergarten, but we want to get him off to a good start - especially as he'll be transferring after the school year has already started. From what I've read on this forum, schools in Little Rock itself leave something to be desired... Any suggestions on neighborhoods close to the city that is good for families?

We're moving from Philadelphia/Washington, D.C. so this will be a big change for us. Any help you can give would be great.

Thank you!

What are the things you want in a school?

Do you want an emphasis on art, math, science, languages?

I suggest you look into the schools in that area and take a tour of the school.

I personally think your child will be fine. I don't think ANY state has 100% perfect schools and perfect means something different to everyone.

I think as long as you plan on being involved in your child's education and you don't expect the teacher to teach EVERYTHING your child will be fine. Kids have parents for a reason and they have to teach them some things at home as well.

Even though my little sister attends a private school, she was already reading aloud to my dad before she started kindergarten and they take her to the library weekly. They make sure she has little work booklet for the grade level above her so she continues to advance, etc, etc, etc.

Here's a listing of all the schools in the LR school district: Little Rock School District Home Page

many of the best schools in Little Rock are magnet schools, so it doesn't matter where you live!
