Where is there a nice, safe, public park in LR?
.....where a family can have a picnic lunch and not be in an isolated place? Is there somewhere close to Riverfront park that is not on the river? Thanks for any ideas.....

I think most parks fairly safe, at least during daylight hours. Aren't they?

Burns Park is great....I don't know about the safety, as I am not from Little Rock, but we've stopped there many times over the years and had lunch while traveling through. It's right off I-40, there is a sign that says "Burns Park" for the exit. At least it used to be.

If you post this question in the Little Rock forum, Jenni-b might be able to give you a better answer. And this might help:
Little Rock City Parks: Parks and Recreation
But I am having a problem thinking of a nice park besides the Riverfront park that is inside the city.

Riverfront Park is a nice place for a picnic. Lots of places for the kids to play. Pinnacle Mountain is also nice, though out a bit.
Oh wait, I just reread and you want something close to downtown. Riverfront probably is your best bet. There's also a small park and a pond over by the Arts Center, but I think the play area at Riverfront is nicer.

Meriwether park is nice, it's quiet. It is off of Mississippi & Evergreen, right at the end of M street. A friend of mine lives around there and I take my 2 year old there occasionally, they even allow dogs (on leash). I also like Mauray Park on the river. There's a sand park off Fair Park/Markham close to the Zoo. Allsop park is also great but I haven't been there in a while, it has great walk/jogging trails.
