The Peabody in LR is nice and right there in the center of downtown and connected to the convention center. The Embassy Suites are also nice. Anything in the downtown area as far as hotels are all decent and the whole downtown area is nice, especially the riverfront - Rivermarket areas. That area has lots of places to eat and trendy bars, plus its close to all the big businesses and office buildings and a long way from shady areas. Now don't get me wrong, you might see a homeless guy in McDonalds at midnight talking to himself, but overall LR downtown is nice and safe. Across the river in North LIttle Rock the Wyndham on the riverfront is nice and also accessible to Little Rock by trolley/streetcar and that part of NLR is nice. The Airport is out in a rural area on the fringe of town in a decent place. You probably won't even see any of the neighborhood out there because the airport road connects right to the interstate that will bring you back into town (take the 2nd exit to I30). Now if you were to take Rosevelt road there at the stoplight coming out of the airport you would go through a slummy industrial type area and if you kept on going down Rosevelt and pass back under the interstate you would end up in the "bad" southside of downtown, which as long as it was daylight you would really not even notice it was that bad. I wouldn't just cruise around there on the backroads for a long time after dark, or especially try to walk in that area after dark, but in comparison its not really like the bad side of Chicago or the bad areas of NYC with projects and such. Most of LR crime is drug dealers against other dealers, meth heads gone crazy in their neighborhoods, or white trash families shooting each other over idiotic Jerry Springer type stuff. If you're in a car and just driving through you will be fine.

rcltrh -

Thanks for taking over!...and to the poster, he is spot on. I'd kind of disagree with the area around the airport - the Holiday Inn is out there but it's closed for repairs or something right now, but there's a couple of very iffy areas out there.

I think the Peabody is a lot of hype, but it's nice, close to the Rivermarket, Clinton library, and all the things there are to do downtown in both Little Rock and North Little Rock. The other nice hotels will be out in West Little Rock, but it's a goodly ways from the airport and not worth the hasssle. Check out the little bars downtown - sometimes they are a lot of fun to be in, and the food is great - my favorite is the Flying Fish for just simple, down home "fish food".

I was in LR on business a few weeks ago and stayed at the Country Inn on Pershing in NLRK. The hotel was very nice, clean and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It was also close to the new ball park and I went to a couple of Traveler games while I was there. Had a great time.

I think I might just stay in downtown close to the riverfront. That seems to be the general idea that it may be safe over there and yet still close to the airport. Thanks for the recommendations rcltrh, Sam I am, and btoverdrive! I can't wait to try the Flying Fish also!

1. I was worried about crime rate, what I learned myself & also from friends there is Crime is confined to a few places, where people like me would never step in. eg south west little rock has pretty high crime rate, but rest of the places were fine, at least I dint feel unsafe.

2. I saw areas like Maumelle, River ridge, river crest, Chenal valley, & one more starting with W(i forgot the name) They were pretty good, dominant population in those areas was of whites, but there are many indians there too.( which I liked as I'm an indian myself)

3. people are warm, helpful & very friendly.

4. Cost of living is much much less as compared to FL

5. A nice place if you have kids, people here are very religious they all go to church every sunday.

all in all I liked it.

We lived in Little Rock for twenty seven years and never personally encountered any crime. You read about it in the newspaper every day, however. We left because of those very religious people who go to church every Sunday. They kept trying to drag us there with them.

They are generally find on campus and to the north of it. Immediately south of campus it starts to get sketchy. The campus itself is generally very safe.

Little Rock is a slowly-dying city, with many closed businesses. The black areas are dangerous. Many people here accept a certain level of crime, just as they accept a certain level of taxation and government intrusion. It won't get any better any time soon.

And where did you get your information, RC? Many people "here", but you live in Las Vegas? "Accept crime"? Who? Who accepts it?

Little Rock is far from a dying city...<shakes head>...far from it.
