I am a single 25 year old female with an oportunity to be a nanny in London, but i want to do as much homework as i can before i go. I'm super outgoing and love adventure, but im a Cancer and my surroundings are vital. I've never been and im from AZ so im used to the sun, but i also love the rain. I know it'll probly take some getting used to, but they would pay me 1200 lbs a month plus 50lb/week spending and room, board and car. Its a year commitment...? I've read so many people saying its not for families and unless ur rich dont go. What do u think? look for a different country to nanny in?

I'm pretty sure there is no legal way for as US citizen to be a nanny in the UK unless you are already employed by the family in question. So best to check that out before making any plans. See UK Border Agency | Domestic workers To get professional advice see People Seeking Immigration Advice: The Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner You may find that Australia or Ireland are easier to go to.

Try Canada. London is very, very expsensive from all the times i've been there.
A lot of people I know are actually moving AWAY from UK and moving TO other countries such as Aus, NZ, Canada etc.
We could use more bodies and we definitely have the space!

there's the website for citizenship immigration Canada

She is looking to work for a year and experience London, not to immigrate. She'll be just fine in London if she's prepared to a low wage for a year.

All your costs are covered, so the 1200 is basically spending money. I think you should go for it!

London will be an ideal choice to be a nanny for a year. It's nothing like Arizona. It's cold and grey in the winter and rains a fair amount, but for someone your age, it can be a lot of fun and a life enhancing experience.

What area do this family live in and do you know anything about their home? How did you come across them and are your sources ligit? You have to be careful of scams and dubious people with other ideas.

You probably do not have the £key on your keyboard, but the currency is pounds not lbs. You can also use 'sterling' or 'BP' (British Pound).

I'd say £1400 a month excluding room & board and a car is good going for a 25yr old single nanny.

Thanks guys! No i dont have that key.haha. lbs means pounds, but i like BP better. I met them on craigslist( i know, I know..BE CAREFUL!) It sounds amazing! I'm a little concerned about the family's reply...which did not answer any of the questions i asked. said theyd pay for my ticket over and that they "dont want to talk too much"(not a good sign) just decide if i can agree to the terms and get my paperwork done, they'll do the rest. Totally bummed because it doesn't seem legit anymore but maybe they do it differently over there? Ha! just kidding..I saw Taken. Are people really that naive????? I've already registered on an au pair site so we'll see how tht goes.

Don't go without first obtaining the appropriate work visa from the British consulate or things will not end well ! Good luck.

Huh? The only thing I can extract is that your 'prospective employers' do not want to talk too much about the position. The rest is a jumble of words.
