I have been a high school (10-12th grade) Writing and Literature teacher in the US for 4 years, and would like to move to England to teach, if possible. I have a very good friend who is moving there this August, and I would like to move with her. I have looked at some of the International Recruitment Fairs - they all cost hundreds of dollars to join, and the fairs are a plane ride away. What are the possibilities of applying directly to a school in England? Does anyone know the procedure for obtaining a teaching certificate in England? Perhaps I am getting ahead of myself and need to be looking elsewhere.

Thank you - any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The only teacher shortages in the UK are for high school level math/science and special needs children. It will be extremely difficult to get a work visa for any other subject. Info here UK Border Agency | Working in the UK

No disrespect but children in the UK are pretty tough. Unless you are a very good teacher and entertainer at the same time you will have it tough. Message me if you want to know more about this.
