Hello,

This is my first post here and I was hoping to get some advice. Here is my situation, I am currently living in the States and my job may send me overseas to Reading for an international assignment. I am interested in exploring the option of living in London and commuting everyday to Reading.

The only information I have found was that I can take the Paddington train from west London to Reading which is about a 30 min commute. I'd appreciate any feedback on this setup and how practical it is. Also, I am interesting in places to live in London for a young professional in their mid twenties.

Many thanks,
Coog

Reading station is currently undergoing a complete rebuild and there is much disruption there from time to time.

I suggest you look into that.

I haven't been to Reading in a long time, though I did go to the outskirts a couple of times last year.

I won't miss the place at all.

Like much of the M4 corridor, Reading is overpiced suburban dullsville. At least commuting in reverse you would avoid the herd charging into London every day.

Looking on www.rightmove.co.uk studios near Paddington station cost from £170 pw, compared with £70 pw in Reading. Plus commuting is not cheap.

Depending how well paid the job is, and how much you want to immerse yourself in London culture, it might be better to be based in Reading and travel in once or twice a week for the nightlife.
