I have a job offer for a company near Heathrow. The job pays 65 to 70k in pounds a year. I will move over without the wife and kids for about 6 months to get settled and then bring wife and 2 yound children less than 10 years old over after the 1st 6 months.

What are some options within 30 minutes transit?

This would be my choice but it really depends what you are looking for: Stoke Poges Parish Council - Events, church, clubs, village hall, village information, council meetings and history of Stoke Poges

Schools for the kids, and easy access to work just south of the airport. I plan to make the 1st 6 months without the kids just to get my feet wet.

If you're bringing the family over, and want to send your kids to a decent state school (i.e. not a private fee-paying one), then you really need to think carefully about where you live.

I covered the essentials in Job in Crawley, where to live with good schools ? - the geography won't be too relevant, but the key points and links hopefully will be.

Do not underestimate how much time and effort you need to put in to ensure your kids are safe, happy and well-educated !!!

Look into Kingston upon Thames, and nearby Teddington. Nice little areas of London right on the river. Great shopping, parks (Richmond park borders kingston, and Bushy Park is between Kingston and Teddington) not quite as expensive as the center of London, and you can catch the X26 express bus straight to Heathrow.
