Hi, doing Windsor and Stonehenge in one day isn't really feasible, forget Stonehenge, it's really not worth effort of going there, the stones are roped off and they're smaller than you expect, I'll give you a photo I took (from the adjoining road) a couple of months ago.

Windsor is a great little town to visit, but I strongly recommend arriving there early as the queues for the Castle can be horrendous, there are Green line coaches from Victoria and other stops and trains from Waterloo and Paddington stations for Windsor.

I'm honestly pretty sure we'd both rather see Stonehenge than Windsor Castle if one of them has to go.

It's looking now like we might go ahead and take the train to Bath, rent a car from there and use that as our base of exploration and then return the car to Heathrow on our way out of the country. Even after a couple hour train ride, getting the car rented and possibly grabbing some lunch in Bath we should still have 5-6 hours to explore. Looking at a few options out that way now, but we're definitely open to suggestions!

Vinci wins £15m Stonehenge visitor centre Ι Construction Enquirer

I'm not sure when this is due for completion, but the current set up is an embarrassment.

That is a good idea as well.
