Hi,
I wouldn't go so far as to call London safe & friendly. Some parts of London are definitely concrete jungle. But the tourist areas are safe like tourist areas in other cities.

I never had a problem while in London except for one time when my Norwegian buddy and I were playing and singing some songs in a London pub. As I walked from the piano up to the bar to get our mugs refilled, I was sucker punched by a Brit. Guess he didn't like some of the old WW I songs we were playing and singing.

I've never had a problem either, either travelling solo or with another woman.
Stayed near King's Cross several years ago and nothing bad happened.
The last time I was in London I got totally turned around on the Tube, going in the opposite direction. A woman kindly pointed out the error of my ways to me, saving me a lot of late-night time and hassle.
I would never want to live there, couldn't afford it--but I love London.
And as expensive as it its, much of its best entertaintment is free: all its magnificent museums, Speaker's Corner at Hyde Park, Regent's Park, flea markets such as Portobello, and several gardens.

Ive been to London and its a tourist resort. We didnt buy anything but food cause its so expensive. I liked the museum and the London eye(wow whatta view) the castles were nice too! Harrods was a huge mall with several stories and everything you could want! They had so many different types of food that I was drooling! I even smelled the Jo Malone candles mmmmmmmm!
Its a high crime city, unfortunately. I would hear police sirens all the time, especially from our hotel at night! Lots of scary, rude drunks too. Its definately not a city id want to live in and besides who can afford the most expensive city in the world?

Never had a wee bit of problem in London, and yes, much is affordable as it is subsidized and open to all--particularly cultural institutions.
I did live there, but it was back in the days that housing, food and heat were affordable!

Go to any other major city in the world and you will hear many sirens. Do you think this only happens in London? Huge urban areas aren't known for their peaceful streets. I certainly wouldn't call London high crime. Sure it has its rough areas, as does every large city out there. I find London to be much safer than many US cities I have been to.

When I was there, I went to Brixton, because I heard this song by The Clash, and I wanted to see what a righteous English SLUM looked like.
Answer: Like a pretty decent neighborhood in Queens, NY.
I loved the Underground. The only mass transit system I've ever seen that beats the NYC subway.
However, I did not care for the air or the food. Pointer for American tourists: You will see many outlets with names like "American Steak House" or "Angus Steak House." They have red lit up signs. Do NOT under any circumstances go into one of these clip joints! I paid 27 dollars (in pounds, of course) for a meal that was worse than I could have gotten at McDonalds.

At London I ate mostly at Mc Donalds, in fact everyday I would go there for hamburger and chicken nuggets. Where was all the supermarkets? I only found one and it didnt have alot to choose from. I bought milk and whole wheat bread and some cold cuts and canned peaches.
Des Moines, Iowa has alot less crime than most other big cities. Theres some safer areas of London but im just saying I heard lots of police sirens and was worried. Even when in Mc Donalds there was a warning sign that said "beware professional thieves" they will loot you!
Affordable in London? Please show me. I have a friend that lives on the edge of London(or was it outside London?) and spent 112k pounds for a terrence(townhouse) building and it was 2 bedrooms and tiny, not even 1000 square feet. And thats a 40 minute commute to central London by underground. I dont even know if his home is leasehold(basically long term rent) or freehold(own shares of)

People pay for location, NAH. Apparently London isn't that awful or it wouldn't have any people.
If nobody cared about location, they'd all live in some empty rural town with cheap housing. London is a nice city for what it is. Leave it be.
Also, you just said the food made you drool, now you say you ate at Mcdonald's most of the time. Either McDonald's makes you drool, you're exaggerating and DID eat some good food, or you lied in the first post.
