Are there minorities in the London police?
Okay,
I've never been to London but I am curious to know if London has minorities (I.E. people who are non-White) in their Police force. Is it diverse? I know here in the U.S. some states and cities have minorities who work within the law enforcement. I wanted to know if London or even England as a whole have any minorities in its Law enforcement or even military.
Thanks!!

What kind of question is that? Of course there are minorities in the police force. In fact minorities are often disproportionately more likely to work for the government nowadays, cause, you know... Governments love to score cheap points that way.

It's a valid question. One goverment section minorities are not proportionatly represented is in the police force. It is still predominantly white and is so for a reason - INSTITUTIONALIZED RACISM.

As for you comment on it being "predominantly white", are you suggesting that in a country and city where the population is predominanty white, that minorities should make up the majority of the police force?

Nothing hysterical about the post, jsut stating facts. As for the amount of minorities on the force there could be a wider representation. I haven't clicked on your link, but for the life of me can't understand why there would be such a long wait if minorities are exactly racing to join.

Regarding London: the police are predominantly white: the Telegraph is a right wing newspaper which always scandalises any idea of affirmative action: you notice it doesnt say how long black people have to wait: my guess is the same as whites. The article says preferences are given to people who speak two languages: which certainly isn't a racist criteria. To be fair to the police: they are trying, but they started from a very low level.
In London: traffic wardens are much more likely to be black, as are bus drivers. England has different discrimination: for instance hispancis won't get harrassed but south Asians will have a difficult time. Bar staff tend to be Australian.
London is a wonderful place: but you need time to get use to it. It has the most liberal populace, with the most right wing cab drivers, about black cabs: London cabbies are skilled workers, they have to study the geography of London for about 3 years before you get a licence: they are expensive but worth the money.

Is it possible that not many minorities are applying for these jobs?

I'm an Indian Hindu and neither I or anyone I know are or want to be a policeman/woman. We're all(or working towards becoming) doctors, lawyers, accountants, entrepreneurs/businessmen, and things of that nature. You guys can have the police force and every other crappy job available to pay for your drinking habits.
