Relocation to Islandia, Working at Computer Associates
I am going to work at Computer Associates next month and I am wondering where I should live in. I want to live somewhere at most 5 miles from Islandia, and my budget is preferably below $1000, and at most $1200. Can you recommend me some communities around? Is Nesconset a good place? Thanks a lot!

Nesconset is very nice, but it does not seem to be in your budget. You can afford a studio or small one bedroom apt. in most of the apartment communities. Heatherwood Communities are usually decent. Bohemia, Hauppauge, Central Islip, and Lake Ronkonkoma would be your best bet. Your budget does not allow you a great deal of places, but there are safe, decent apartments out there. Good Luck.

Thanks! I am thinking of living in a small, decent studio. What about homes managed by Home Properties? I've seen one called Woodmont Village near Lake Ronkonkama.

theres nothing great in that area, all the apartment complexes are pretty old and they smell as you walk through them.

You'll have better luck finding an apartment in your price range if you look at apartments being rented out by homeowners. There aren't nearly as many "apartment complexes" on Long Island as in other places, because of zoning restrictions. Some of the newest ones are very nice but they're also much more expensive than the older less-well-maintained ones.
To find apartments for rent by homeowners, look in Newsday and in the Pennysaver that covers the area you're interested in. You can also go through a realtor but you'll pay a month's rent as commission.

Thanks for all your opinion. I'll be traveling to LI next week and check out the apartments myself.

CA- Howdid it work out?
It has been over a year since you posted that you would be working at CA, how has it worked out?
I was recently contatced by a recruiter for a position at CA, but am nervous about the number of layoffs that seem to happening there.
What do you think?

Be a little careful about being in the Central Islip school district if you have children.
