Yeah, I'm actually at SONIC right now, I'm posting this from my cell phone. THEY ARE OPEN BUT EXPECT TO WAIT AT LEAST 3 HOURS TO BE SERVED!! There are advisory signs up on the Southern State Parkway warning about delays.
I've never seen anything like this!!! People are screaming and passing out... this must be what it was like when The Beatles first came to America. Supposedly they had a parade this morning (so POed I missed it) and Steve Gutenburg is here signing DVD copies of Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol that they are selling off a truck for $9.99. What an atmosphere... I can really tell that after today everything is going to be different and better for all of us. If we can get a Sonic to come to Long Island, what can't we accomplish?
Gotta go, there's a rumor circulating through the crowd that Kevin Covais is here and he's going to perform an impromptu set of showtunes for us. I will report back when I finally get my food!!!

PICS PLEASE!!!!!
OMG I cannot believe I have to work and miss this event!!!
Im here, too!!! amy fisher is out back doing.....well....you know what she does best!!! the hot dogs are amazing!!! I just had 3! I hear alec baldwin is coming, too! woo-hoo!
Up to THREE HOURS to even place an order ... this really is a legendary moment lol. People are going to be talking about going to Sonic's grand opening today for years and years.
OK!!! SO I finally got to the front of the line and ordered 2 SUPERSONIC Cheeseburgers, a Chili Cheese Coney Island, three bags of onion rings and an Oreo SONICBLAST for dessert. THE WAIT WAS WELL WORTH IT!! Everything was amazing, rivaled any other food I have ever ingested... I think I even prefer it over much classier "sitdown" places like The Olive Garden and Ruby Tuesdays. Was kind of POed cuz a fight broke out between two women (not sure if they were blacks or not, like in that other thread) over a bucket of Jumbo Popcorn Chicken and in the melee a few of my onion rings fell on the floor and got trampled. I just used that as an excuse to get back on the line and order myself a Bacon Cheeseburger TOASTER Sandwich... mmmm SO UFCKING GOOD!!!!!!
I finally understand why this thread is almost 30 pages long and there are countless other threads and posts on here anxiously anticipating the arrival of the SONIC in North Babylon. Sorry I made fun of everyone before, I have seen the light. They say that things like the first time you shoot heroin into your arm, kill another man on the battlefield or hold your first child is the most life altering experience a human being can be put through, but after today I'm not really so sure how true those claims can be. One day after the 1,978th anniversary of Jesus Christ rising from the grave to rescue us all from our sins I, too, feel BORN AGAIN into the warm, welcoming arms of wholesome corporate Americana and greasy fast food. Thank you all for showing me the way.

Sorry my camera is broken... wish I could have taken pictures, because it really was a once in a lifetime event. They probably would have been worth something one day, like a Pete Rose rookie card. I'm sure it'll be on News 12 and probably all the other stations later tonight. I talked to a few friends and we're all thinking of getting tattoos that say 4/25/11 NEVR4GET - The Day SONIC Opened.

AFAIK I didn't see cocaine or alcohol on the menu there. Where did you hear that? I doubt that would be legal!!

OMG so sad I missed Amy!! I used to love reading her "relationship" articles in the Long Island Press, they were so insightful. Apparently Kevin Covais had to cancel because he was running late at an earlier performance at a Bat Mitzvah in Great Neck
