An 18 month old toddler from Staten Island fell into an in-ground pool because he was unsupervised. His grandfather was supposed to be watching him. He is currently on a ventilator.

Just a reminder that all children need to be supervised by ADULTS not other children. A handful of kids on Long Island each year drown in a pool all because they weren't supervised properly.

I know this is a weekend to have a fun but let's keep it safe as well.

Happy July 4th everyone!

There'd be a lot fewer of these incidents if these people weren't allowed to build pools just steps outside their back doors.

We looked at a house in Huntington once and when you got to the bottom of the back stoop you were basically in the pool. I was like - we have 3 kids, are you seriously showing me this house.....why?

People need to have a locked fence around their pool. Not just a gate that a kid can figure out how to open. It needs to be a type of fence that a kid can't climb over and an actual lock that cannot be opened without a key.

People need to have those alarm things in the water ---- the one that sets off an alarm in the house if anyone is in the pool.

People need to supervise their children in the pool at all times --- not run inside "for a second" to get the phone or put the laundry in the dryer or get a snack.

Every year, we hear about kids drowning in pools because someone wasn't watching.

I always ask my buyers if a pool is a deal breaker for them. Most are always concerned with safety. It makes them nervous so we overlook listings that have pools unless it's an above ground and then they can choose if they want to take it down.

And I agree, supervision is highly needed. And never let the older kids watch the younger ones. We had an above ground pool when my son was born. The ladder always came out at the end of the day and I made sure lightweight chairs were locked in the shed. The back doors were always secured. I never let him out of my sight when we would be in the backyard. We had him go for swimming lessons as soon as he was a year old. Can't take any chances.
