Access Door From Boeing 767 Falls in Garden City

FAA officials have confirmed a hydraulic service access door detached from the underbelly of an Alitalia Boeing 767 heading into JFK for landing and fell in Garden City. A Nassau County Public Works employee working on the grounds of the Franklin Avenue courthouse Saturday heard something crash to the ground at approximately 4:55 p.m.

I always worry about this. Ever since that man's leg fell off that plane...things falling from planes overhead does enter my mind. Thank God no one was hurt.

What I find outrageous is the statement by the FAA spokesman that the investigation is over & plane parts fall from time to time.

Well what if the door would have hit someone? Regardless was there criminal negligence or recklessness by someone? Is the Nassau DA's Office looking into this?

I doubt it. There isn't much that the Nassau DA can do to an international air-line.

Default I read a story

in the papers a few years ago where the waste products from the plane lavaratories are iced up and ejected from the plane into the ocean, but that a chunk was ejected from the plane, somehow ended up falling thru someone's home roof, and right into their bathroom toilet!

About 9 years ago a body fell out of the landing gear section of a plane when the wheels came down for landing. Apparently the guy was trying to hitch a ride without paying. It was the second body to fall in two years in LB!

"Silent film star TOM MIX was killed in a freak auto accident on 12 October 1940. Famous for his high-living ways -- including his love of fast cars -- Mix was speeding across Arizona in his roadster when he unexpectedly encountered a bridge under construction. Braking and swerving sharply, Mix dislodged a heavy suitcase from the luggage rack behind him. The suitcase crashed forward into Mix's head, killing him."

That came pretty close to the intersection of Franklin Ave and Old Country Road! Pretty busy area.

Do we need anymore reasons why the Runway 22L routing is bad? Planes are dumped over our area on a daily basis, despite JFK Airport being right on the ocean they fly over us all the time at low altitude. Having all these planes flying over one of the most heavily congested areas in Nassau is a disaster waiting to happen.
Occasionally they fly the planes further north over the north shore between 25a and the LIE, this should be done as much as possible to minimize the danger to the public.
But the FAA could care less and treats central Nassau like a toilet and a trash bin, dumping jets over us, even when the winds dont favor runway 22L.
I guess it will take ppl getting killed by an accident for something to be done. I already think this is one of the many reasons ppl are choosing to move out of central Nassau.
