Nice, getting even more affluent. Some always have been. Close to water, nice downtown area. Close to the LIRR, highways. Good schools. Very mixed schools.

Keep that in mind. Its pretty close to a section that is pretty nice, called Harbor Hills. A bit more North of Harbor Hills on PW road there is a section called the Terrace. Nothing wrong with that section either but you are close also to the low income housing and probably might have the same zoning for schools as that area. Kind of a seedy area to have to pass on a daily basis.

What is your price range? There are so many different sections that have diff price ranges.

Buddie of mine is a teacher at the Shribner (spelling) High School.
----Say's lots of vile nasty rich brats, every time he fails one of them the parents launch a huge lawsuite. Teachers are told to "find the mistake and pass them" or get "re-assigned" and be put in thumbscrews.
The school raiting means squat, both White and Brown trash in Port Washington.

I wont even get into the curruption with assorted "suits" and Prudente family. Lets not forget the ESL nonsense with all these Mexicans and Salvadorian offspring hiding out in Manorhaven.
Port Washington will no doubt be a slum like that strip in Westbury in 10 years

-Joe

Thank you for your replies.

Our price range is 700k-800k. I didn't realize that there was low income housing in PW, thanks for that. I'm sure a realtor would omit that info.

I visited the town and I found it quite charming but the houses were very pricey. We would like to be near Manhattan as we work in the city but it is increasingly difficult to find good housing in our price range that meets our criteria.

Perhaps Garden City. I was thinking Manhasset, but the stories I've read here about that town have scared me!

You would not get a house in Manhasset for that amt anyway.

GC, you will only get a small house/small lot for 700-800. Is that ok? If so, then, yes it is very Manhattan Accessible and very doable. Schools are great.

Also, Floral Park Village. Schools are ok, not phenomenal but taxes are almost half of GC so there is always private school if you arent happy with the schools. Right on train line, average house price is 500's. Lot sizes 40 or 50 X100. Very Manhattan accessible too.

Both GC and FPV are fully incorporated, so they have their own police, sanitation, no parking overnight on the street laws to stop commuters from parking their cars in front of your house to walk to the train

Does this interest you?

Great info, thank you.

I will look into Floral Park. I can always go the catholic school route. It's amazing when 800K can't buy you a decent house.

It seems like you need to spend one million to live on more then 1/4 of an acre in Nassau.
