Do we have mosquitoes? Yes. Do you need to put nets on your windows? No. It would be a look, though!

HPC, normal screen doors and window screens do a good job in in keeping flying insects out of the house.
Might you be headed to the Navy Operational Support Center in the Hamlet of North Amityville ("Amityville, NY 11701" mailing address) in the Town of Babylon, Suffolk County?

No, I'm not headed there.
I'm just trying to gauge whether there are just a few mosquitoes in summer, or a lot.
I am one of those people who always seems to get bitten if they are around
Do most people have window screens in LI ?

Why can't Walter just bring himself to say..the Navy Operational Support Center in North Amityville. Is it necessary to be so verbose in his geographical descriptions?

Of course, maybe I'm ignorant but there are places that don't? (outside of highrise apartments)

Also, our electric rates on LI are among the highest in the country - so having AC on all summer long costs money. If you can afford to stay cool - then do so. If not, don't worry - generations of Long Islanders grew up here without AC and all lived to tell the tale - myself being one of them.

I divide my time between VT and LI. The one saving grace in VT is that the night will usually cool enough to not require AC, but during the day it has been just as hot, if not hotter than LI.
Good warning about the electric rates. We were using window units up until a couple of years ago when we went to CAC. My electric bills while using the window units were very high.

^ standard window screens are a must in my opinion... too many flies and mosquitoes would get in... they already do when you open a door for just a few seconds (yet they want to go back out toward the light a few seconds later - annoying). Maybe people are picturing something else?

Most homes have screens.
Mosquito populations vary depending upon where you live (proximity to water, ponds, etc.) If you're close to an area with a lot of standing water, the mosquitos can get intense.
The gnats can be rather annoying as well. I have had more issues with gnats this year as opposed to mosquitoes.

Were you trying to cool a whole house with window units? If so, I could see why you would be paying higher electric bills.
