You can't change things. Best is to only know why it happened so you can pick a place that has the least risk of being turned into a dump...

and just to add to the thread, valley stream really does get a bad rep from green acres. i never understood why. i mean its a shopping mall, you go there to buy stuff and leave. if you really want an opulent shopping experience, you can always go to saks fifth avenue in the city. a few black or hispanic kids wearing du-rags are really gonna stop you guys from buying a pair of pants in macys?
