Default watch your cars at huntington train lot

Big increase in break-ins. Wife and I have both noticed lots of broken glass in the north lots west of NY Ave and my buddy just had his window smashed and GPS taken from the small lot on the east side of NY AVE (not the pay lot... the little one north of that). cops said tons of break ins lately - thieves also going under the cars and taking the cad-converters from the exhaust.

sadly, Public Safety has not proven much of a deterrent.

watch what you leave in your cars.

Not at all suprising, considering the problems in the vicinity of the train station with illegals and gangs. Take a look at the elevator there, its heavily vandalized, straight out of ghetto, sometimes they live in there and they leave their waste behind.
Just do a Youtube search on Huntington Station LIRR...if you dont believe me.

How can you watch your car if you're on a train?

fair point if you're taking the 'watch" part literally. Should have said "Heads Up" Maybe I should say watch where you park... and for how long, or what you leave in your car. I used to park overnight sometimes if I was staying in the city... now I won't.

I'm also making a point of parking in the spots facing the road... might make it a bit too conspicuous to smash a window. If you have that tell tale suction cup ring from your GPS on the window... somebody is going to assume it's in there, etc.

It's amazing when you read the local precinct reports how many cars are broken into with items such as laptops, gps, checkbooks, wallets stolen. Why would someone leave those items in a car? Sometimes I think people are asking for a breakin.

That just dosnt happen at the train station. It happened in our nice quiet development in May. We all park our cars on the driveways and 6 of us got them broken into and things taken.

They are all looking for GPS devices.

buddy spoke to a cop. theory is the thieves may even hang back (guys on bikes or just walking around the lot) and watch to while you park to see if people seem to put GPS etc in a glovebox or console. My buddies was in his center console.

I think people should just go back to having an old "station car". Remember those? No one would bother breaking into that, not worth it at all.
Either that or have your wife drop you off at the station in the AM and pick you up in the PM - no need for a car to be parked there!
