I think in Jail, no? Or is it just the guy from the commercials? or was THAT Crazy Eddie? I know there was some kind of "insane" legal problem.

I remember being a kid and loving those Christmas in July commercials where he would shake the crap out of a mini Christmas Tree.

Crazy Eddie - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fled to Israel, came back to stand trial, got 8 years in jail, was out in what, one?

To the original poster, keep your chin up and complain to whoever you have to. If the camera is defective, can't you warranty it if all else fails?

I dealt with a company like this once, a place that was on route 25 in Syosset, east of Robbins Lane if I remember correctly, forget the name. I look at the 6th Avenue ads in the paper, and am reminded of this place. Bought a beeper (yes, it was a while ago), turned out to be defective. Opened the battery case to find a hand-written label inside, so I knew it was a "reconditioned" product. Went back, told the salesman "I said I wanted a brand NEW beeper, not recon". He balked, I told him I'd do whatever I have to do, and he went in the back, got me a brand-new beeper in a sealed package, and I never went back there.

Since 6th Avenue Electronics as a whole is shady and dealing with them is a waste of time and an exercise in frustration, that would be my choice of action. Call the credit card and ask them to do a chargeback (meaning take the charge off your card and take the money away from 6th Avenue Electronics) because you tried to settle the problem with the merchant and the merchant hoodwinked you. Then the credit card company will launch an investigation into them and I believe whatever is written on the receipt at time of sale regarding exchanges, etc., counts as a CONTRACT and 6th Avenue Electronics will be forced to honor it. The credit card company will be the bonk on the head they need. Even if you used a debit card with a Visa or MC logo, your bank can still play ball like that.

Just be aware that:

(1) If Sixth Avenue Electronics is not a member of the BBB, there is nothing that the BBB can do with them, except make a note of the problem so that when consumers research the BBB's findings in the future, they can read it.

(2) If they are a member, the BBB can only ask them to honor your exchange request, not force them. They have absolutely no authority over any business that joins them.

The BBB is not an enforcement agency. It is most useful as a repository for consumer research. For example, if you are thinking of patronizing a business and you check with the BBB beforehand, you can see (a) if they are a member, (b) how many complaints have been made against them, (c) how they handle the complaints ... are the customers ultimately satisfied or what ...

Definitely call your credit card company, assuming you used one. Good job contacting the Better Business Bureau. Along with disputing the charge on your c/c, that a good 1-2 punch to start.

I've never been to this store, never knew they had this rep. Usually buy my electronics at PC Richards.

Keep us updated!

Yeah they're super shady, I bought a TV on Amazon and it turns out they were the ones selling it. So they sold me a TV they didn't have. Waiting and waiting they even set upa adate for delivery I waited all day for it, when I called they said they didn't have the TV in stock. So I called Amazon and they matched the price and it was shipped the next day. NEVER go back to 6th ave, I cringe when I pass their store.

The guy on the commercials was an actor, not the "real" Crazy Eddie.

I saw one of those crime tv shows that focused on the Crazy Eddie stores and CE grossly exaggerated the amount of inventory he had to make his company look more valuable to investors. They would actually fill warehouses with boxes that were empty or had bricks in them to make it seem like there was something. Then when an auditor came to valuate their company and check the merchandise they supposedly already owned, he would have a sexy young thang of a gal "help" the auditor count and distract him. LOL!

For what it's worth, the phone # for the 6th Ave corporate headquarters is (973) 467-0100.

That may be true but both times I made a complaint to them, they helped resolve the problem. Can't hurt to try.
