I need not elaborate further.
I am entitled to not like an area for any reason i want - as is anyone else on this forum - or anyplace else.
I might dislike it because it has boring architecture, bad schools, is close to towns that are undesirable, has no trees, is flat, , has mediocre schools, is too near jericho turnpike, lacks history, or has too many people of the same ethnic group and is not diverse enough.

And those are just a few of the reasons.

Calling me "genius" in a sarcastic and disparaging manner must indicate that i threaten you.

As for the poster who corrected me about the exact boundaries of bellmore - i could not care less what the exact boundaries are.it is near enough to those places and it is not such a nice place itself. -imo.

The op asked why homes were so inexpensive there. There is always a reason. I gave my opinion and i am not alone in it. And you know what? I wouldn't care if i was.
I ido not need the validation of others.

there are plenty of levitt capes in bellmore, there is a section just south of newbridge accross from the library of levitt capes.

the real big thing about bellmore is a) location and b) house quality.

there are certian areas of bellmore that aren't all that nice, not particulary due to ethnic makeup, but really due to the housing stock on the blocks combined with proximity to commercial areas.

bellmore has a lot more old beach bungalos and small ancient houses. If you're just looking on MLS, you may not see it, but if you actually go look at the houses most of the houses that make you think "this is soo cheap, why is it so cheap?" have a reason, and its readily apparent once you visit it and tour the house. Not to say there aren't deals out there, but most "cheap" houses are cheap for a reason.

biggest thing about bellmore I see is that you really can't generalize, its a lot less consistant than some other towns, there are a bunch of streets and housing stock I wouldn't even consider, on the small canel streets, no basement capes, etc but its not for hidden reasons, mainly once you look at them you can judge for yourself. there are also plenty of nice older homes that have been well taken care of.

I would argue the towns list in this order somewhere along the lines of
Wantagh (wantagh schools)
Merrick
Bellmore
north bellmore
Seaford
but there are significant exceptions for certian areas which rank higher or lower
when I looked I looked in all of them, I still think 90% of all these areas are "good"

I don't know if is just a bellmore thing but I grew up there so I pay attention to things that happen. Oh yeah and multiple times people have gotten thrown in front of trains @ Bellmore station...but I suppose this kind of stuff can and will happen anywhere.

It's not bad, but there has been an influx of African Americans to Bellmore as well. Growing up there, it was far more white than it is now. I'm not saying that has attributed to the town's downfall though. I think LI is just on the decline in general.
Can anyone else substantiate this claim of an influx of African Americans into Bellmore? Is this occuring in North Bellmore or Bellmore? Are they middle class, or working class? How has this impacted North Merrick and South Merrick?

Personally, I don't believe it. Blacks usually extend from already established black areas, hence, Baldwin and Valley Stream. I'd be more concerned about blacks moving into East Meadow.

I did see a black person the other day so who knows.

Look I am sure there are more black people here than 10 years ago but from what I can see there aren't many. Not many in the school my kids attend and not many on the baseball and basketball leagues my children are in.

According to city data as of 2007 or 2008 I think 1.6% of the population is black.

I have never had a problem here. Is this Old Westbury or Jericho? No, but I am not worried at all here.

Don't worry your pretty little white head over it. The evil black people haven't targeted Bellmore YET.

I was referring to not being worried that Bellmore is a "bad" area not that there are black people here, I don't care if there are black people here or not.

Illegal apartments are the kiss of death in north bellmore. You can see a huge increase in school taxes because of a large non tax paying base.
