Tired of getting ripped off by the dealer. Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in LI who works on Honda or Acuras.

THanks

I own 2 Honda's and an Acura and most of my friends own Honda's. We take our cars to The Honda Men in Lindenhurst. They are very trust worthy and friendly and will actually take you into their garage to show you what is wrong with your car. A friend of mine used to work for them about 14 years ago or so. Their new name (b/c Honda did not like them using "the Honda Men" is ASAT Corp. Their phone number is 631 957-6100. They are honest and very reliable. At this time my husband and i are looking to buy a new car and the only reason we will not buy another brand of car is b/c these guys are that trustworthy and reliable and they only work on Honda and Acura. So if I were to buy a Toyota, I would not be able to bring it to them. When you call, tell them Trisha and Rob sent you. They will know who you are speaking about. Don't trust any dealers with your car, they are rip offs. I swear by these guys! Good luck to you whatever is wrong with your car.

I'll second this one. A friend of mine who trusts nobody in the business has been swearing by these guys for years. I believe at one time they were also referred to as "the H*nda Men".

Try Ventura Car Care in Garden City Park.

Honda / Acura Specialists

Honest, reliable and reasonable!

BTW - there are many websites frequented by Honda and Acura enthusiasts that can help you to diagnose and fix your car, if you are not afraid to get your hands dirty.

I own 4 Acura's - they're the best.

I actually listened to a couple of you because you said the Honda Men or ASAT were so great. Theyre not!!! All they do is rip people off. So I dont want someone else on here making the same mistake I almost made. I dont care if they have all these BBB stickers on their windows it doesnt mean they are so great it just means they will fix your car right but for a HUGE price. All I have to say is they tried to screw me and then they were pissed because im not some dumb customer who doesnt know any better. First of all they lied to me about what my car needed fixed because I knew I had just fixed that part last year. They tried charging me $500 for a part I knew I had fixed already. I took it to someone else and all I needed was part of it and I got it done for under $200. Then they said my battery almost dead which it wasnt. For everything they said I needed it was going to be almost $1000. I ended up going to Meineke and got one part fixed then I went to Pep Boys and got the other part fixed all for a total of $300. So dont make a mistake and go there, they will just try to rip you off!

Why do you need a Honda specialist? Are you having a particularly complex problem? I drive a honda and go to a general automotive mechanic and everything works great. If the person doing the work is an educated, up to date technician they should be able to work on any car. Honesty is a whole other animal.

Wow, I am shocked to hear you had such a bad experience. Myself and several of my friends take our Hondas/Acuras to them and we have all had positive experiences with them. I know the owners and they are very nice and wouldn't do anyone wrong. I have nothing but rave reviews to give them. One of my friends used to work there and I know he personally knows them and has nothing but good things to say about them. I will only buy Honda and Acura b/c I trust them to work on them and they are more honest than a dealership. And btw, I am not a dumb customer who doesn't know any better. I grew up with mechanics and am very knowledgable when it comes to cars, parts and things that can go wrong. I diagnosed the problem myself a few times before even taking my car there and without me saying anything, they told me what was wrong and low and behold, I was correct. Not once have they ever tried to rip me off. When something is wrong they always take me or my husband in to their garage to the car to show us physically what is wrong with it. They have never ripped me off. I'm sorry you feel that you had such a terrible experience with them. Also, if you already replaced the part, how come you couldn't just get the part replaced by the other shop that did it. Didn't the other shop warranty the part? BTW, they mostly use all Honda parts...that could be why the cost was so much higher than Meineke. Once in a while they will try to get a used part from a junkyard if the car is really old and not worth spending so much $$ on but typically they use Honda manufacturer parts. I have a feeling that's why the cost was that much more. They also warranty their parts.

Default A reply to LongIslander123

As one of the owners of ASAT Corporation, I would like to respond to LongIslander123:
Iím sorry you feel we ripped you off. It was never our intention to do such a thing. We try to be upfront and honest in all dealings with our customers. First, we never claimed to be the cheapest service center on the block. We specialize in Honda/Acura for the last 26 years and yes we have been members of the BBB for more than 20 and never had a complaint, not one. Now that does not mean mistakes and misunderstandings donít happen, of course they do, but it is how we correct them and make sure they never happen again. Our philosophy is the truth, good or bad. We primarily use Honda OE (original equipment) parts. They can be quite expensive but we do offer in some cases aftermarket and used parts to complete a service with the customerís complete knowledge and understanding. For example, a station car, maybe the car is 10/15 years old and is used for local driving. Using a Honda OE catalytic converter to the tune of $800-1800 might not be the best possible choice for this situation. We try to get to know our customers and how they use their car. If I have a mom in a minivan with 4 children in the car, you better believe we are going to recommend the best possible repair or service regardless of cost. Now it is the customerís choice to accept or reject our recommendation but I can sleep at night knowing I made the right recommendation. Yes, auto repairs can get expensive, that is a fact of life and it is only going to get worse with abundance of electronics and gadgets being installed in cars. We offer one way to fix your car. Of course there are chains stores and salvage yards were you could do the job cheaper using cheaper cost parts or you could save even more money doing it yourself, that is your choice but coming down on us for offering you our services is not right and slightly unfair. Did we charge you any fees to look at your vehicle or give you an estimate? You donít say. As for getting mad, well maybe that happened I donít know but we are all human and have feelings. I suspect there may be more to your story that meets the eye. I have to look long term at what is best for my business and my customers. Looking over your post it seems you had some type of exhaust work done. Meineke offers exhaust repair but at a different level. We use Honda OE exhaust, very expensive but the parts fit right (no making it fit and no hitting the body), they sound the same (what do I say to a customer with a 2007 Accord if I put on aftermarket and it does not sound right?), they last (you will be visiting Meineke every year ( lesser quality metals)). Honda exhaust systems are made in big sections not individual pieces. The pipes are included, no hangers extra, no welding extra, and they have good warranties. So I can primarily use Honda parts that fit right, sound the same, last and have a good warranty for good money or I can use aftermarket where I have to make it fit, which takes time, that sounds different, where I will be replacing pipes every year and have to charge for clamps, hangers and welding for a cheap price. I prefer to do the job my way and most customers seem pleased with what we offer and again you have the choice to go anywhere you want. As for the battery going dead, I donít know, I would need more information. I do sell batteries, Interstate is the brand we use. Our experience is that again, with all the electronics in cars today, battery power is critical to correct vehicle and vehicle accessory operation. It seems that batteries used to last 6/7 even 8 years, now maybe 3 or 4 is the norm. As to your specific claim that we lied, I would like to believe we did not, businesses canít be around too long lying to its customers and we have been here and will be here for a long time to come. As for the Pep Boys service. I have no idea what you are writting about, Pep Boys has been around for a long time, they offer reasonable repairs and parts for a reasonable cost. They are a more general repair center and we accept many Pep Boys recommendations to us for harder more specific repairs.

Pep Boys? Hell, if you go to med school and flunk out, you become a veterinarian. If you go to auto repair school and flunk out,
you become a mechanic at Pep Boys. I always wondered what happened to all of the out of work shoemakers, after we started buying
cheap Chinese footwear, now I'm sure that most of them went to work for Manny, Moe & Jack...
