the teachers who had their school supply budgets cut, so they're spending some of their own money on supplies in some cases (like a friend of mine in Pt. Washington)... interesting circle isn't it?

I can't see that they went up that much last year right or the year before that? my guess is next year you are going to see a decrease because your last assessment was too high maybe?
I figured out what happened, its simple actually. My neighbor had the same thing happen when he bought his house.

I bought the house in 2009 (430k) which is why my house didnt drop in value as much as everyone else. Stil,l the comps that they are using for my house are way move expensive then mine.

I drop from 1111 to 1054 for the following year.

that makes a lot more sense now. Normally they will not increase that much or you may even see a drop in your taxes next year.

Stupid. Dumb. Stupid. And unfair. And just plain scummy.
I see it. Such a scam.

Basically, my school district just screwed me out of 10k, plus the tax increase.
I just did a no out of pocket re-fi this year knocking roughly 200+ bucks off my monthly payment, which was a much needed savings for me as I can barely swing this damn place to begin with. I guess I can kiss that goodbye. By Feb I'll be right back to where I was last year with the additional 10k still on my principle. Bastards.

I'm thinking of filing a class action lawsuit against the county...who's with me?
(cue cricket sounds)
Considering I don't have kids...count me in!

We're still paying for his folly.

I make it a point to vote no for the school budgets because IMHO they WASTE a lot of the money and the children are the last to benefit.
Oh I am not trying to say Gulotta was any good, that's for sure!!

All we have had is CRAP to choose from for County Executives: Suozzi, Mangano ... crap. None significantly better than Gulotta. They all stink!

As for "doing battle with the greedy unions" you're right they sure won't do battle with the police union, but when it comes to the teachers' unions that battle is off limits to the County Executive and is supposed to be "fought" by the individual school superintendants and school boards (who are in collusion with the teachers' unions against the taxpayers).

Instead of the County, how about a class action lawsuit by the taxpayers against the teachers' unions for collusion and price fixing? Unions are supposed to take care of their own, not mind the business of the next school district, yet some teachers even have it in their contract that they MUST BE AMONG THE 3 HIGHEST PAID SCHOOL DISTRICTS ON LI (Roslyn, I believe). Looking around at what everyone else gets in different school districts and then demanding the same or better is artificially inflating the cost of their members' labor. It's nothing but racketeering and taking advantage of the monopoly they have on employment in LI public education.

Just curious is your friend using using his/her untaxed tutoring income or the very generous salary he/she makes for working about 182 days?
