It can only go into unincorporated hamlets.

With that being said even if you account for that, you will still have more in the unincorporated areas in central & southern Nassau, then you do in northern Nassau. However, I don't think its much of an issue, and probably makes sense when you think about it. One of the main things they have looked at is some of the more dangerous intersections, those with higher accident rates, etc. If you take a look at population and population density, its pretty clear that southern & central Nassau is more populated than northern Nassau, which means more traffic, more cars on the road, etc.
One of the worst accidents I have ever seen was coming home from a party and driving through a syosset intersection. This is why I specifically stated "north shore hamlets", as the hamlets have accidents just like anywhere else. But the cams disproportionately outnumber the cams in the north shore hamlets by a factor of 4:1 or more. It's pretty obvious the cams are not solely there for "safety", (ie- $$) ...the same way we are not in Iraq solely to liberate the Iraqi's (ie- $$/oil/power/natural resources).

I am no expert on LI geography, but I believe a hamlet by nature is unincorporated the same way a village by default, is incorporated. So there's no need to say "unincorporated hamlet" or "incorporated village" ...

The reason there are no points is because they don't know who the driver of the vehicle was.

Taking that into consideration, its very likely that if you would take a look at a list of the most dangerous intersections( in the unincorporated areas of the county), the vast majority of them would be in southern & central Nassau.
Also Smash, the population's of say Syosset/Jericho are equal to the avg south shore hamlet. Take Bellmore (which has 5 cams I believe) and east meadow.

So if it's ALL about safety, you mean to tell me the fine folks on the north shore don't want safer intersections?? Ahh . There's just as much traffic and accidents. Let's be real, its got a lot to do with NIMBYism than anything else.

Whose studies? Yours?? Please, link us to all the "studies" that show red light cameras cause more accidents and make us less safe.

A LEGAL turn on a red light means coming to a FULL STOP, looking all ways, and then making your turn. It doesn't mean rolling through it at a reduced rate of speed because you "think" you can stop on time in case a car is coming.

So here is my PLAN OF ATTACK. It relies on a mass protest.

1. We all commit to PROTEST EVERY TICKET WE GET! Whether or not we have a case. Take as long as you can, ask every question 3 times, and act really dumb. It will cost the county a fortune and they'll quit.
2. Let's all try the various prevention techniques and report back here if we get a ticket after use. Together, I'm sure we can at least make a dent in their revenues and help ourselves as well.
3. Let our politicians know of our displeasure at the BALLOT BOX. Demand to know if the next sheriff / police chief / mayor / executive will favor removing these hated cams.

IF YOU ARE FED UP, PLEASE REPLY TO THIS THREAD. If there's enough interest, I'll set up something substantial.

Good luck to all of you!

Guess what? I am FED UP with jerks who think it's ok to pass a red light because "it just turned red" or who roll through "right on red after STOP" or because they claim the "yellow is rigged to turn to red faster"

You got tickets?? Pay them and learn your lesson and stop putting others' lives in danger!

Consider yourself lucky that you're only paying $200 and that you didn't kill someone when you were passing the red lights you blew through.

If they were really smart they should have cameras at every light taking pics of people on cell phones and tailgating. They would rake in a million a week is Suffolk alone.
