can anyone tell me about the town of Baiting Hollow?

very quaint, very pretty. No industry, really no businesses except a few places to eat. I live in Ridge, on the border of eastern Wading River & baiting hollow is less than five minutes away. Its very close to riverhead which has great shopping, very close to the north fork wineries, lots of great farm stands. In my opinion its a fabulous place for a summer home, it certainly beats fighting the traffic to the hamptons.

I looked at a house there many have some weird thing going on with the land
Make sure you get the land with the house, many little beach houses are for sale however the land does not come with them. (Especially by the water) The landlord can tell you get the house off his or her land.
Personally I found the place to "dead" many ugly cookie cutter houses going up.

weird is right
well I spoke to a real estate person who was showing a beach bungalow type home, she says that the township owns the land.
here's the kicker though...no dogs allowed in the community...huh?...that's a deal breaker for me.
guess I'll have to take my money elsewhere.

There are lots of kids and no fences at the beach bungalows (its like Roxbury-Breezy point) the town and taxpayer does not want to deal with dog bite lawsuits. People don’t want Fido mine fielding the trails with “doggie bombs”
There are quite a number of diseases transmitted by dogs and through dog excrement even after it has been cleaned up.
The town could get dog insurance but that would bring the taxes up and its not fair to the people who dont own dogs.
2- Dogs are overprotective, noisy and constantly get out of the house!
This is a real annoyance during the summer when you have your windows open. Sometimes distant fog horns across the sound softly go all night long, these dogs bark and HOWL 100 times louder all night

Its nice, resale could be questionable due to the horrendous school didtrict.
You can get fairly cheap North Shore Waterfront/view in Sound Beach and Rocky Point and Wading River too.

you didn't state in your original post that you were considering that specific community, which by the way for the price is still a sweet deal. I see those homes listed under 200k all the time. If that's your budget for a summer home, you need to look off LI.
Did you really think you were getting the land too for those prices?

My dogs would be howling thats for sure, and they dont stop for a few minutes until the horns have stopped. Although I love my dogs, it must be a nice quiet place without dogs!!
