I UNDERSTAND that there are communities that cant hold a candle to Plainview selling far more rapidly with lesser inventory. Why so much excess in a wonderful town like plainview?

Plainview is very nice but the taxes are astronomical.. even for LI. That could be one reason.

I looked in Plainview, and based on the taxes, I changed my mind.

we just purchased a home in Plainview/ OB, there are a lot of crummy homes on the market (we were looking for a while) . People are asking way too much on some and they are not flexible on price. We finally found an amazing house with a realistic owner!!

we were also looking in N. massapequa and the taxes are comparable to Plainview

Huh?

It's pretty well known Plainview has some of the highest taxes in the county. Look at the average tax bill for 350k-500k houses. Plainview runs around $11000-$14500 average vs $8k-$10k for other similar priced areas.

What is so wonderful about Plainview?
I have nothing bad to say, but what's the draw?
Seems like an endless stream of outdated splanches and high ranches.
Love the sumps though. I would pay a premium to abut a sump.
Anyway, why the taxes so darn high by comparrison?

I would agree. I explored Plainview a few year back when I was looking to buy a home and found the area typical of most other areas. I personally didn't find the area appealing then decided to buy elsewhere.

the average tax on homes I personally looked at in N. massapequa were 11K (my parents are paying over 12K!!). the house we have purchased (1500 sq ft same price range, similar property size) are 11K. we must have looked at 20 homes in N. Mass , I've never seen anything near 8K
