First of all, thanks everyone for looking at this post and your advices. I have been looking for an area to buy our first home in the LI/ Westchester area. Both me and my husband work from home and I know, there isn't really a need and it is a big waste of money to buy a place in LI, oh well, if only he does not prefer living close to his friends and family, who are all in LI. We are looking to pay around $500 to $600 for hopefully a 3br/2bth house, but condo will work also, but I don't want to pay $1000 a month just for the condo fee. I have been focusing our search in the following areas: Forest Hill, Bayside, Auburndale, Flushing and Douglaston. These are the area that I like personally, because they are close to trains that goes to the city, with good school districts and restaurants and relatively safe Unforunately, there are not that many selections at our price range... I am wondering if I am missing any area in Queens that I might possibly like. Other than those areas mentioned, the ones that I know I don't like are Woodside and Jackson Height. Or it is just impossible for us to find something decent within our budget?

These are all neighborhoods in the New York City Borough of Queens, and while Queens and Brooklyn are on Long Island, queries about neighborhoods in Queens and Brooklyn are normally posted to the New York City, not Long Island, forum.

They are close to trains that go into Manhattan.

(These neighborhoods are in the New York City Borough of Queens and by definition are already in the city.)
