Question Are there more desirable sections of Greenlawn?

My husband and I are looking in Greenlawn and were wondering what the difference between the fountanville, poet and college sections were? We heard there may be an area of welfare apts. somewhere in the area along Pulaski? Any input would be helpful.

Main thing is the school districts. Harborfields (#6) is considered more desirable, is rated much higher. College Section is Harborfields, Poet section is mostly Elwood though I think a few blocks of it are in Harborfields. In general the more North the more desirable.

"Desirable" is a relative term. If you can be more specific, I might be able to guide you in the right direction.

North of Pulaski road is the safer part of greenlawn. The section 8 houses are on Pulaski but are in the eastern part of huntington station which is about 2 miles away from Greenlawn.

The nicest section of Greenlawn, by far, is a very small one. It's just east of Centerport Road, in the northenmost part of the town. It's comprised of Arbutus Road, Arbutus Court, and Grace Court, plus the few houses around those streets. Expensive, though. You must absolutely make sure you are in the Harborfields district if you move to Greenlawn (don't let the realtors steer you elsewhere). Of course, Centerport is way nicer than Greenlwan overall, but you can expect to pay for that.

I live in the area and wouldn't agree that Centerport is nicer than Greenlawn. Yes there are some areas of Centerport that are nice, but the homes & property sizes can be very inconsistent. I do consider the area you described in Greenlawn to be one of LI's hidden gems. There are also some nice homes & neighborhoods west of Centerport Rd. Plus Greenlawn has an actual town, Centerport has 2 small strip malls no where near each other.

Of course, to each his own, which is why these boards are interesting in the first place. For me, the proximity of Pulaski and the Broadway/Little Plains area to Greenlawn is a huge drawback to its appeal. Most of it, it seems, is comprised of high ranches or small capes and offers little else in the way of charm. As beautiful as the houses in the Arbutus area are, even those are a little too close for comfort to Pulaski, if you ask me. I would choose Centerport any day. But frankly, I wouldn't want everyone else too, or it would lose its charm as well. Fortunately, most can't afford it so no worries there.

Huntington Beach is a great area, but the PO is Centerport. I think only the locals call it Huntington Beach; small , charming houses on leafy hilly streets. People stay there forever. A really nice area with its own private (thus the name) beach.
